I’m the last person to defend Smoltz, but this is very clearly an, “oh my god, what a nasty pitch to end the game” response.

@BKSportsTalk @kyler416 What’s the reason for the power surge? That might influence my answer. Did Bloom change something to fix Walker that Mo didn’t? Something is different with the same players. Development matters.

Can I ask a quick question on this? Please don’t yell at me. If this continues, does Mo get credit for the “rebuild” given the fact that basically every young player currently on the roster was drafted &/or developed while he was in charge?
Thomas Gauvain@thomasgauvain

I've had two thoughts rattling lately given the #STLCards hot start: 1. Will Chaim Bloom speed up his "long-term" timeline? 2. This must be the most successful rebuild over the last ~15 years.

@greg16676935420 Why do certain people expect tips for doing nothing? I dont get it. Have you ever tipped a heart surgeon after saving your life? Or the EMS person who arrived in the ambulance? But you need to tip someone for pulling a beer out of a cooler, and popping the top...

@TaylorTwellman The first person to teach my kids soccer has been your father, Taylor. Very positive experience for what you can expose a 4 year old to.

The only rebuttal I have to this is just because one plays doesn’t make one more knowledgeable than someone who has honed their craft in coaching. There are so many good coaches in sports who were shit players and great players who did nothing in coaching. I learn when I listen to people….i don’t think we have enough people listening and that is LD’s point. I think LD has had some personal experiences in youth soccer which I won’t disagree with nor know enough about.

“If I have a conversation with a youth soccer coach from pick wherever in America, half the time that coach thinks they know more about soccer than I do.” USMNT legend Landon Donovan calls out youth soccer coaches in the U.S. 😳 “In England, a small country, there is an overall common goal and a common desire for the national team to succeed because it helps everyone,” he said. “I know the media is rough and stuff like that, but everyone in general wants it to succeed. Right? “In America, we have such a massive country, and we have a lot of people who know nothing about soccer, who get an opinion on soccer and have influence in soccer. “And so it's really hard to find commonality, because if I have a conversation with a youth soccer coach from pick wherever in America, half the time that coach thinks they know more about soccer than I do. “And I mean, they really believe it. “It's just because they have like power in their little fiefdoms that they run and whatever. The parents are beholden to them, the kids are beholden to them. “So they just think they're powerful in these because they have a seat on the U.S. Soccer board, or they're one of the member associations who gets to vote on things. “And so they feel like they're as influential as the Commissioner of MLS. It’s crazy.” Donovan has seen it all. Having played for MLS sides like LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes, he also spent time coaching San Diego Loyal in USL and San Diego Wave in NWSL. He played in Europe as well, with Everton, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen. [via @goal’s The Rondo]

Since MLB permanently expanded to three wild card teams, no team has ever won 90 games and missed the playoffs. If the Cardinals go 2-4 over their next six, they'll be on that pace a month into the season. Here's the weird part -- it's hard to find much that looks unsustainable:

By a combination of private equity, venture capital, and substantial government contracts with NASA. Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way saying NASA is not good. NASA was the agency that made it possible for man to set foot on the moon. It’s just that these days private firms execute things faster. And they should co-exist with publicly funded agencies like NASA.

I need examples of a US city with at least three pro sports teams where the NHL team is top two in fandom in the city. Boys here said Detroit, DC and Tampa. I think I’ll give them DC and Tampa, but contest Detroit. Some guys said Minnesota, I think Twins are bigger than Wild.
