I know I’m far from the only seeing the snowflakes, but it’s still a sight when it’s the first of the year. There could be some snow showers for the trick o treaters this evening. And for those of you wondering, retirement is good.

Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings are now in effect. The strongest cell is in southern DeKalb County heading for Kane and Kendall Counties at nearly 45 mph. Winds over 70 mph are possible with this storm and there are signs of some rotation.

It’s more graupel than snow but it sure is cold for late April. I miss the warmth we saw about 10 days ago.

For anyone who may have missed it, this past weekend was Phil Schwarz's last weekend at @ABC7Chicago. He's now retired. It was always a pleasure to work with Phil, a great forecaster and a great person. Wish him the best in his much deserved retirement. abc7chicago.com/video/embed/?p…

@Danielle__Ellis That was a brutal Arctic air mass. Fortunately, it didn’t last long. The winter of 2014-15 was exceptionally cold and snowy.

I was a little surprised that over half of those of you that responded picked the Groundhog Day Blizzard of 2011. The deadly heat wave of 1995 is the most memorable weather event to me. Thanks to all who answered this week's quiz.

My final weather quiz is more of a poll to see which weather event is the most memorable to the audience since I first started working at WLS. Let us know which one made the biggest impression on you and we'll have the results after the game.

38% of you correctly chose December-January of 2022 as the last time we had consecutive months colder than normal. Thanks to all of you that answered this week's quiz.

More unseasonably warm weather for tomorrow with highs around 50 degrees! There is an interesting storm system for Wednesday, but for now it looks like mainly a cold rain with a mix of precipitation far north. Your complete forecast on our 10PM News.

It's been ten years since we saw less total snowfall this late in the season. Next chance of snow comes Thursday, but that looks like it will be mainly in the northwest suburbs. Thanks to all that answered this week's quiz.

If you liked today, you're going to love tomorrow. Highs will reach the very low 50s by afternoon and that will likely be the case every day through Wednesday. There is some wintry weather in the extended forecast. I'll have the details on our news at 5:30 and 10 PM.

After 7 years Friday is my last day at ABC 7. I would like to thank you for the trust that you have placed in me to cover the Chicago-area and Northwest Indiana. Not once did I take that privilege for granted.

Only 4 % of you got this right. The snowiest January is 1918 when we registered 42.5" of snow. Even though we had the monster blizzard in 1967, we finished that month with just 28.9", which ranks as our sixth snowiest January. Thanks to all that answered this week's quiz.
