I know I’m far from the only seeing the snowflakes, but it’s still a sight when it’s the first of the year. There could be some snow showers for the trick o treaters this evening. And for those of you wondering, retirement is good.

Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings are now in effect. The strongest cell is in southern DeKalb County heading for Kane and Kendall Counties at nearly 45 mph. Winds over 70 mph are possible with this storm and there are signs of some rotation.

It’s more graupel than snow but it sure is cold for late April. I miss the warmth we saw about 10 days ago.

@Danielle__Ellis That was a brutal Arctic air mass. Fortunately, it didn’t last long. The winter of 2014-15 was exceptionally cold and snowy.

It’s the 2019 polar vortex for me! My first real experience of just how cold it can get after moving to Chicago from Florida. Real shock to the system! 🥶

After 7 years Friday is my last day at ABC 7. I would like to thank you for the trust that you have placed in me to cover the Chicago-area and Northwest Indiana. Not once did I take that privilege for granted.
