I’ve worked in the private sector most of my adult life; spent five years full-time in the classroom. Hardest job I’ve ever had *by far* and the highest stakes. The idea that you “only” work 182 days is nonsense. Done well and conscientiously, it’s all-consuming. And ass-kicking.

@ajjuliani And AI is really surfing the coattails of 1:1… and I’m not sure (as a whole) that we’ve tackled that either. I love this, “amplify, not… flatten!” 🙌🏼

I’m not worried about AI “replacing” teachers. I’m worried about classrooms losing their humanity because we don't rethink learning. AI should amplify curiosity, not flatten it. But if we use AI like another tech pacifier, we might as well not use it at all.

@ajjuliani 💥Boom! Spending a few days with my nieces (HS) was really hard for me- a little tweak here and there could really spice up the lesson plan! I’ll be at #VAST2025 next week serving up some student voice and choice lessons: “STEMTok, STEMSnap, and STEMigram: Boost learning w/tech!”

We keep saying “students aren’t engaged,” but honestly… most of the tasks we give them aren’t engaging to begin with. If we swapped places with our students for a day, half of us would be bored out of our minds. What’s one thing you’ve seen recently that actually pulls students in?

Today someone sent me this photo from 2002. I was teaching 4th grade. We were testing HP iPaqs - handheld computers that allowed my students to read ebooks, access the internet, type responses, take photos, make videos, and more. They went home w/Ss daily. What a throwback!
