@SlumRNA_Dog Again, agree with below point, but why Israel? It’s a drop in our federal budget. Nothing to do with lack of responsiveness to tick infestation.

I love how everyone on Twitter is coming together to deal with this massive tick infestation (real or imagined) and meanwhile goyvernment is like “uhhh fuck okay how do we send even MORE money to Israel.”
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature

If you're worried about ticks, put up an owl box. The animal driving most Lyme disease in the eastern US is the white-footed mouse. Ticks that feed on them are far more likely to come away infected than ticks that feed on other animals. The bigger the local mouse population, the worse the next year's tick year. A single barred owl pair raising chicks can take hundreds of rodents in a breeding season. Owls also don't carry Lyme. The bacterium can't survive their digestive tract, so an owl that eats an infected mouse is a dead end for the disease. Researchers at the Cary Institute, the leading lab on Lyme ecology, have been explicit about this: "Landscapes that support predators have reduced Lyme disease risk." One owl box on its own isn't going to fix a tick year. But a yard with owls, foxes, bobcats, and weasels in it has fewer mice, and a yard with fewer mice has fewer infected ticks. If you have woods or fields nearby, a properly sized barn owl or screech owl box (different species, different boxes) is one of the most useful single things you can do for tick exposure at the landscape scale. Match the box to the owl that lives near you. The mouse is the problem, owls are the solution.

Your baby isn’t just “a baby” I don’t know why I even have to explain this. Like I would not trade my life for “a baby,” unfortunately I have people that rely on me, but the baby that you’re giving birth to isn’t “a baby,” it’s everything.

My wife and I struggled for two years to have our first child, my oldest son, and his birth was very difficult, ended up being an emergency c-section, and for that 5 seconds that he wasn’t breathing after he was drawn from her womb we both would’ve traded our lives for his.
ade@franmanifesto

when my obstetrics professor was like "in an emergency situation we do everything possible to save the baby" and i was like ".....and the mother 🤓" and she was like "well yes but the baby is our priority"

@dilanesper Countries disproportionately reliant on agricultural trade to the countries they just bombed and petroleum wells they may be forced to cal fare worse than others. Point taken re public opinion, though, although you and I disagree about that.

Conservatives want capitulations from Iran that the US has not earned on the battlefield. If you want Iran to do things that rule its nuclear program completely off the table, dismantle proxies, give up the straits completely, etc., you'd need a successful ground invasion.

@dilanesper Continued blockade plus bombardment (assuming we have the munitions) could do that. Hell, just continued blockade coils. But Americans aren’t willing to stomach the gas prices.

That would be a mass casualty event for Americans, likely take months or years to do, would be very costly, and would be incredibly unpopular. But at the end of that, if successful (a big "if"), you could force that sort of capitulation. But we haven't done that.

@RapidResponse47 I love ripping Tim Miller as much as anyone else, but these better not be within 100 miles of the agreed to terms.

Tim Miller has such a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has warped his peanut-sized brain that he’s starting to take Iranian state media as fact and peddle disinformation on their behalf. Maybe Tim should register under FARA for being an agent of a foreign country.
Tim Miller@Timodc

Trump's initial demand was unconditional surrender. The current MOU is open the strait that had been previously opened but under Iran control + withdraw our military. And then maybe after 2 months we can continue nuclear negotiations that had been happening before. Yikes.

@GrantLavac What makes you say that? I honestly have no idea how to gauge what’s news/relevant here and what’s not. Seems like everyone’s running on pretty motivated reasoning.

I’d rather vote for the AIPAC candidate than the DSA one. At least one of those is a pro america organization and it isn’t the DSA.
