@ryanripley Story Points are a proxy for ideal hours, even the guys who invented them say so (Ron Jeffries). They are subjective, abused and dangerous. I recommend estimation in hours for technical tasks and COSMIC function points for user recognisable functionality.

@flynorse May I congratulate you on your working capital generation scheme: Announce a flight, gather the cash, cancel the flight and sit on the cash for 2 months. (and make it tortuous for customers to claim a refund).

If project failure is predictable, what’s stopping us from predicting it? Software projects don’t just overrun, they often implode. Even after decades of Agile, AI, and APIs, the failure rate of large IT projects remains stubbornly high, which is an existential risk for many organisations. The Issue? Major programs still collapse under poor scope clarity and unrealistic optimism, costing $$$ in wasted effort and lost opportunity. Each failure isn’t just financial, it’s reputational. Lost trust, lost benefits, and lost time that can never be recovered. The Learning? Acknowledging our rich history of failures leads us to adopting systems that can prevent it. Enter Colin Hammond, Founder of @ScopeMaster_ Every board should treat software project risk as a strategic exposure, not an operational inconvenience. But with the right systems, we can avoid scope quality and sizing issues and transform outcomes. Projects don’t fail because people aren’t working hard enough. They fail because we don’t acknowledge the failures of the past and engage intelligent systems to prevent them. Don't wait until you can see the failure factors forming, steer clear before they have the opportunity to strike. 🎧Tune into Powering ProjeX Episode 28: "Colin Hammond: How Scope Master is Redefining Software Project Success" to explore how scoping, sizing, and governance can flip your odds of success. 🎧Listen to the Powering ProjeX podcast on: You Tube: youtu.be/YKPM48JNTWs Spotify: open.spotify.com/show/4ouQGB93q… Apple Podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/pow… 📬Engage with Powering ProjeX on: X: x.com/PoweringProjeX Linked In: linkedin.com/company/poweri…

In the latest episode of the Powering ProjeX podcast, I had the privilege of discussing AI-driven solutions for software project management with Colin Hammond, CEO of @ScopeMaster_ With over 30 years in IT, Colin highlighted how Scope Master utilizes natural language processing and the COSMIC functional sizing model to analyze requirements, detect ambiguities, and identify omissions early in the project lifecycle. This approach not only reduces rework by 20-50% but also enhances predictability in cost, schedule, and quality. For project managers facing scope creep and estimation challenges, tools like Scope Master offer a transformative path to success. @TimSweeneyEpic Everything boils down to incentives. Of course Google doesn't want ad blockers: That's their whole business! That's the spigot that pays for all that Chrome development. I'm actually fine with that. Let Firefox and friends own the ad-blocking space. Competitive opening!

Forcing Google to sell Chrome is just stupid. We already have plenty of alternatives, like Firefox and Chromium. All the value in Chrome is that Google is incentivized to CONTINUE to invest heavily in moving the web forward. It's a classic wealth v riches misunderstanding.

A guy shoots Trump in the head live at a rally “protected” by the Secret Service - No manifesto - No cell data - No texts - No emails - No interviews of parents - No footage of his home - No background - No accomplices This is the real cover-up

@Philip_A747 @afneil The world service is one of the few voices that penetrates dangerous propaganda around the world. This protects truth, democracy and freedom worldwide. It keeps politicians on their toes and shortens wars. I’d call this good value.

@ScopeMaster_ @afneil Yes world service news is significantly better than domestic production. But not worth keeping if it means also domestic news continues in current form.

It is VERY depressing news indeed. Sorry to hear this Stephen. The BBC seems determined to give up so much of what makes it special and to do more of what everybody else does.

THREAD: 1. PERSONAL NEWS: Today BBC News has announced plans to close @BBCHARDtalk after 3 decades holding the world’s politicians and powerbrokers to account. This is sad news for me personally, but much more important, I think it’s depressing news for the BBC🧵

@allenholub #NoEstimates is a challenge to those who believe that estimates of cost, time, or effort are necessary in software development. It is an invitation to re-think the reasons we use estimates.

What exactly do you think the "no estimates philosophy" is? I have a feeling that it's not what you think. For one thing, it's not a philosophy. @WoodyZuill coined the hashtag with a tweet that said that his team had just finished a major project without using estimates, along with a call to discuss that. There is no specific approach, or technique, or rules--only the observation that they're not needed in real projects, as proved by the fact that they were not needed in real projects. Actual companies work this way--hardly philosophical. So the question becomes, how can you move away from estimates in your context? There are many different answers to that question.
