The two most famous players that moved this offseason, LeBron and Giannis, both wanted to be Knicks and are now playing for their backup teams because the Knicks won the title.
Dan Devine@YourManDevine

Thinking about how nuts it is that the Sixers added LeBron and Jaylen Brown, the Heat added Giannis, and the Raptors (in theory) added Kawhi, and the Knicks didn't "miss out" on any of them, because the Knicks just won the NBA championship, and that, it turns out, is pretty cool

I absolutely loved watching @ToriiHunter48 play when I was a kid AND I’m all for laying into catchers during plays, but seeing this play for the first time ever right now is wild. Beyond unnecessary to take the catcher out in this situation 🤣. What did he do to Torii?!
The Twins Almanac@TwinsAlmanac

.@ToriiHunter48 scored on a Henry Blanco sac fly on this date in 2004, bowling over White Sox catcher Jamie Burke to dislodge the ball. Burke spent the night in the hospital and was diagnosed with a "mild concussion." "I feel like a truck hit me," Burke said.

This felt like a totally different company for about seven months. Different approach to shooting the show, fresh matches and faces, and some risks taken. Still think Harper should have been in the world title match at WrestleMania 33.

MLS simply has a branding problem—in many ways, cutting off its nose to spite its face. A great example is how prominent the sponsorships are on the jerseys. Like am I a fan of the “Columbus Crew” or a fan of Nationwide Insurance? Am I a fan of the “Philadelphia Union” or “BIMBO”? How can I have pride wearing a Houston Dynamo jersey when they make a mockery of themselves by creating a new ad location for DUDE WIPES above the players’ asses? (Actual real life ad attached—I did not make that) Obviously the teams have to create revenue somehow, but I think the sentimental cost of such prominent sponsorships really should be considered against their value. Early on in a league when nobody cares about the teams and the only value you have is as some kind of agnostic spectacle, I get it: you have to sell any ad space you have just to survive. The more ambiguous “team pride” coefficient—which eventually becomes the most important factor for team success—is minuscule relative to the value of an ad deal. But once the league starts to grow, there is a tipping point where team pride starts to overwhelm the value of gaudy sponsorship deals. And eventually it gets to the point where the team pride is so significant, it makes tiny ad space tremendously more valuable than full-uniform ads were before. It’s a somewhat counterintuitive equation: the more ad space you sell, the more commercial you make the team feel, the less fan pride you cultivate, the less tickets & jerseys you sell, the less valuable the ad space is. So the more ads you sell, the less they are worth. And you compromise the ability for fans to really buy into the team through the process. Obviously this is a complicated thing to model out, and would require a bit of faith from current MLS owners—accepting short-term decreases in revenue in pursuit of longer-term gains—but there is good news… They have an explicit answer sheet: literally every other sports league in the US. You have a 100+ year test case for the American market and the results are unanimous: minimal, imperceptible advertising on uniforms + prominent team brands = optimal success. Thanks to the World Cup, the MLS has what it has been searching for: consumer interest. The best thing you can do now is pour gasoline on the fire; lean heavily into pure team branding to give the market something to sink their teeth into and cheer for.

The MLS has room to grow in a few ways, but 1 major thing sticks out: The team naming conventions. I’m watching a game between “San Diego FC” and “FC Dallas.” We are not in Europe. We don’t call our soccer teams “football clubs.” Why the hell are we integrating foreign nomenclature into the top level branding of a team? It reads like we are trying to be someone else. Beyond that, “FC Dallas” doesn’t even make sense in English. “Football Club Dallas” puts the modifier “Dallas” after the head noun “Football Club.” That is Romance language construction—grammatically common in Spanish or French, but not in English. So not only are we using foreign terminology, we are also forcing foreign grammar into our brands. And then the core of the issue: bucking a ubiquitous trend in all other American sports. Literally every other American team uses the same nomenclature: City + Mascot/Nickname The Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Red Sox, Washington Capitals… It’s the city and a thing. It tells you where they are from and gives you some semblance of a brand to assign to the idea of the team. “FC Dallas” gives you nothing. No imagery, no brand, just a bland technical “name” to use to refer to the team. This is just one of the many “foreign” things about US soccer that just make it hard to get into as an American fan. If you want to take over the American market, you have to be authentically American. The MLS simply does not present that way in its current form. If anything, they come across as wannabe Europeans. Until the MLS manages to own its American nature, they will struggle.

The fact that they attack you personally but cannot debunk what you wrote is all you need to know, Kuz. I don't agree with you on many things, but you are on point here. The fact that they look for ChatGPT, the Jewish Wedding you were attending, a bad stat you had in one game, and so on, not focusing on your point, only shows they are no-brainers.

This is 2026. People cosplaying as things they don’t have the authority, the talent, or the track record to actually be. Just for content. A mayor playing president. A founder playing operator. A content creator playing one-on-one thinking he’s a pro. A 25yr old with a ring light playing economist. Everyone auditioning. Nobody building. Were raising a generation that learning the reward isn’t in doing the thing it’s in looking like you did the thing. The clip is the career. The pose is the product. The soundbite is the substitute for a life’s work. Don't fall for distractions
