Carney walked into Davos and was taken seriously. He sat across from Trump and didn't flinch. He speaks the language of central banks, multilateral institutions, and heads of state. That's not a resume detail. That's the job description for this era. The July tariff deadline framing is a trap. It reduces a mandate for serious governance into a single deliverable Conservatives can weaponize the moment negotiations get complicated. Canadians didn't vote for a transaction. Charest was was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada from 1993 to 1998. He switched over to the liberal party in Quebec in 2003. When the former PCP became the more radical right IDU Party of Stephen Harper. Charest caught on faster than most.
