@ScotsCopper Every year of my service we have died on a hill expecting more and getting what we get in Octobers wage. Despite the SPF protesting for months with no 1 turning up at the other end of the table. This time its actually nice that theres a bump than I can expect rather than predict

Awful. Suicide of cops ‘under investigation’ or having recently been is very real. ‘The job’ often becomes who we are, a threat to it is therefore existential. Allegations in policing are too often subject to sensationalist & out of proportion. That doesn’t help either.

A 'respected and well loved' police officer of nearly 20 years' experience has died suddenly while on bail having been arrested.  PC Claire Browne had served at Southampton Central Police Station and in parts of the surrounding area including in Romsey since 2006. The 44-year-old mum was found dead at a property in Netley Abbey after her colleagues responded to a concern for her welfare. A family statement said: "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our much loved Claire. She was a dedicated officer who served the force and the community diligently and compassionately for 19 years. "Claire will be sorely missed by her many friends and colleagues. Our family is devastated and we ask for understanding, kindness and privacy during this incredibly difficult time." She is the second serving police officer to have died while under investigation by the force's Professional Standards Department following the death of Southampton-based response officer PC Alex Hazlett-Beard in February.  Her death has sparked an independent review - ordered by the police and crimecommissioner Donna Jones - of the Professional Standards Department in Hampshire. PC Browne was arrested amid an investigation into sending sensitive police information from her work email to her personal account. She was on bail when she died at 11am on Monday, July 7.  The arrested came after she had been served notice of a gross misconduct investigation into her honesty and integrity, and using a police account for non-work purposes. The Echo understands it relates to claims she had a campervan under her name to avoid any issues with child maintenance payments Police and crime commissioner Ms Jones confirmed to the Echo she has commissioned the review. She said: "Recent events have understandably raised questions and concerns among officers, staff, and the wider public about how the force handles internal investigations.” “While the force has appropriately referred this matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), I believe it is also necessary to examine more broadly how the Professional Standards Department operates, particularly in terms of support provided to officers under investigation and the culture of those investigations.” “To ensure transparency and fairness, I will be commissioning an independent review, led by a qualified individual from outside policing with relevant experience in assessing organisational practices and wellbeing.” “This review will not interfere with any ongoing investigations or statutory processes but will help the force and me as commissioner to better understand whether the current systems are appropriate, proportionate, and supportive.” “I have discussed this with acting chief constable Sam de Reya and the incoming chief constable Alexis Boon, and they both endorse this approach.” “I remain committed to ensuring high standards of integrity within the force, but also to ensuring that officers and staff are treated fairly and compassionately during difficult times.” “Further details about the scope and terms of the review will be shared in due course." Acting chief constable Sam de Reya has issued a video message to officers and staff across Hampshire police outlining where her teams can access support, it's understood.  In a statement she told the Echo: “Everyone is extremely shocked and saddened by Claire’s death and our thoughts remain with her family, friends and colleagues.   "Claire was a well loved and respected officer and colleague who had worked in many different departments and teams throughout her policing career. She will be missed by us all.”  Hampshire Constabulary has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the police watchdog.  Asked about the circumstances of PC Browne's death, a Hampshire police spokesman said: "Officers responded to a concern for welfare call at an address in Netley Abbey, at 11am, on Monday 7 July. A police firearms officer allegedly assaulted by two brothers at Manchester Airport has told a jury his behaviour on the day of the incident was "professional". Mohammed Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, are said to have struck out after police were called to an incident at the Starbucks cafe in Terminal 2 arrivals in July last year, when Mr Amaaz is said to have headbutted a customer. PC Zachary Marsden was one of three officers who approached Mr Amaaz shortly after in the car park pay station area to arrest him, Liverpool Crown Court heard. Prosecutors said Mr Amaaz resisted and his brother then intervened as they subjected the three officers to a "high level of violence". Imran Khan KC, defending Mr Amaaz, said it was his case that PC Marsden "made a series of mistakes some or all which were not in accordance with your police training". While cross-examining PC Marsden, he said this "ultimately resulted in your conduct falling below the professional standards required of a police officer. "And you used unlawful force against him, leaving him to defend himself and his brother." Mr Khan said: "You went in, all three of you, and held on to Mr Amaaz which rendered your actions unlawful because the force used was unjustified, disproportionate and not necessary." Jurors heard PC Marsden has served Greater Manchester Police for about five years following a spell as a special constable with Lancashire Constabulary. The officer had regular duties at the airport as an authorised firearms officer since April 2023. Mr Khan asked him: "As far as you personally are concerned, how would you characterise your performance as a police officer in general?" PC Marsden said: "Professional." Mr Khan said: "In relation to the events we are dealing with, how would you assess your performance as a police officer that day?" PC Marsden repeated: "Professional." Mr Khan said: "Having looked at the CCTV, do you consider there were any aspects of your performance that fell below the standards required of a police officer that day?" "No, said PC Marsden. PC Marsden said he had received a report of "two Asian males fighting outside Starbucks" and on arrival was told by a member of the public, Abdulkareem Ismaeil, that he had been headbutted by a male in a blue tracksuit who had made off towards the car park. Mr Khan said: "You potentially had two suspects or two victims. "It appears you were taking Mr Ismaeil's word for it?" PC Marsden said: "It's unfortunate I was not able to talk to the male in blue as he attacked me before I could engage in any form of communication." He said his plan was to escort the suspect from the crowd in the pay station area and to arrest him outside where he would have radio signal and a "line of sight" of his colleagues. Mr Khan suggested that announcing his presence as a police officer as he entered the area would have been "one of the better options", to which PC Marsden replied: "I did not deem that to be a safe option." "My honestly held belief was that it was not appropriate to explain our attendance in the hope that he would comply and leave with us," PC Marsden said. "Based on my policing experience, someone who has been violent once is more likely to be violent again when challenged." Mr Amaaz is alleged to have assaulted PC Marsden and PC Lydia Ward, causing them actual bodily harm. He is also accused of the assault of PC Ellie Cook and the earlier assault of Mr Ismaeil. Mr Amaad is alleged to have assaulted PC Marsden, causing actual bodily harm. Both men, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, deny the allegations. The trial continues. @NormanBrennan The impact on these officers will be unforgettable. Dragged threw the coals for responding to violence, becoming a target through violence and then reacting to violence. Its a shame their force haven’t supported them at all and instead suspended them for transparency.

@CalumA_Steele @heraldscotland Great read Calum. They want ACC’s in line with the rest of the UK…… Shame that feeling is not replicated when it comes the amount of pay scales that exist for a Scottish police constable VS any other police constable employed in the UK. 11 years VS 7 years…

@polisbhoy23557 @RogerthePolice @ScotsPolFed If the police had leadership and a backbone a lot of the nonsense complaints that fall into conduct/criminal categories would be flung in the trash - rightly so. But no, we keep them over officers for at times years and those officers aren’t allowed to move on until cleared…

@GraemeDeyMSP Have a look a post I made on my account about pay. That statement is false and misleading. Its all broken down and simple to understand. One thing is very clear Police Scotland’s officers are NOT the best paid and have to work longer to reach top pay compared to 7 yrs in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@GraemeDeyMSP @theSNP The general public lose support from the police everyday. No enquires getting done into crime due to non police related abstractions, lack of resources. The numbers that are there are young in service. When I refer to numbers you should dig into what % is frontline. Frightening.

@pyjama1banana @ScotsPolFed Not chasing likes. I understand the legislation thanks 👍🏻 check up every now and again. My point is depts in the police don‘t work together for the common goal aka the accused needing a custody disposal. Most undertakings are breached then released on undertaking again 🤡🤡

@Scot_PC127 @ScotsPolFed Anti- Police. Been a coo 25 years biggest learning curve of my career. 7 years after it being brought in the fact cops with service still don’t understand the CJ act is astounding. Folk don’t really want to learn though, just rant anonymously on twitter for likes…
