@gmhales When I joined I chose 3 divisions ranked 1st 2nd 3rd, I assume it’s still the same. You can be posted up to 35 miles I believe from your home address. Theoretically you could be posted anywhere in the country if it’s required but I’ve never heard of that actually happening

I have a police Scotland question: how does the posting process work? My understanding is that within English and Welsh forces, officers can be required to work anywhere in the force area (or am I mistaken?). I'm curious how that works in a national force.

@ScotsPolFed Also, I’m not convinced that I trust some cops to use the jet washer in the washbay, let alone a firearm…

@ScotsPolFed A Norwegian/New Zealand model of firearms carrying might sound good on paper, what we really need though is ARVs to be actually used. We also can’t be trained to drive small vans it seems, how will the force cope training us (and keeping us all in ticket) for firearms?

@Westsidecop1 Force exec have absolutely done us at the knees. No forewarning, no prior training to get everyone certed. I hope the Federation are ready for the raft of near miss forms that should be submitted any time there’s a delay getting a van to assist

Today’s memo is another nail in the coffin of policing in Scotland. Between these utterly ridiculous new rules being implemented almost daily, and the shambles that is the court system, we’re headed for a lawless society.

Remembering PC Kirsty Nelis, PC Tony Collins and Captain David Traill, of Police Scotland, who died on duty on this day in 2013 in the #Clutha tragedy. And remembering all those who lost their lives that day #PoliceFamily #LestWeForget @Police_Memorial

Just HOW many more officer's lives are going to be lost to suicide? Of those tragic deaths, how many were under investigation? Of those investigations, how long did they drag on for? Of those protracted investigations, how much officer support and welfare was there? Not a single Police Chief should rest easy whilst this continues. It's a scandal. We ask EVERYTHING of our police, and yet there's an obsession with throwing them under the bus with little to no concern about the impact on them, their lives, careers and families. ANYONE can make a spurious complaint against police officers and it will be investigated to the ends of the earth - whereas victims of crime are saying time and time again that THEY are being let down. How on earth is that fair? When exactly did we lose sight of proportionality? More to the point, who's asking these questions on your behalf, and when exactly will enough be enough? How many more cops do we need to lose? One or two? Ten? A hundred? It's a sickening thought, but it's time that policing remembered that it used to be a "police family" and that "looking after your own" doesn't have to be a dirty phrase - it's an essential part of a functioning organisation. Remember, always - there IS help out there and there is ALWAYS someone to talk to. Stay safe and look after each other 💙

Awful. Suicide of cops ‘under investigation’ or having recently been is very real. ‘The job’ often becomes who we are, a threat to it is therefore existential. Allegations in policing are too often subject to sensationalist & out of proportion. That doesn’t help either.

A 'respected and well loved' police officer of nearly 20 years' experience has died suddenly while on bail having been arrested.  PC Claire Browne had served at Southampton Central Police Station and in parts of the surrounding area including in Romsey since 2006. The 44-year-old mum was found dead at a property in Netley Abbey after her colleagues responded to a concern for her welfare. A family statement said: "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our much loved Claire. She was a dedicated officer who served the force and the community diligently and compassionately for 19 years. "Claire will be sorely missed by her many friends and colleagues. Our family is devastated and we ask for understanding, kindness and privacy during this incredibly difficult time." She is the second serving police officer to have died while under investigation by the force's Professional Standards Department following the death of Southampton-based response officer PC Alex Hazlett-Beard in February.  Her death has sparked an independent review - ordered by the police and crimecommissioner Donna Jones - of the Professional Standards Department in Hampshire. PC Browne was arrested amid an investigation into sending sensitive police information from her work email to her personal account. She was on bail when she died at 11am on Monday, July 7.  The arrested came after she had been served notice of a gross misconduct investigation into her honesty and integrity, and using a police account for non-work purposes. The Echo understands it relates to claims she had a campervan under her name to avoid any issues with child maintenance payments Police and crime commissioner Ms Jones confirmed to the Echo she has commissioned the review. She said: "Recent events have understandably raised questions and concerns among officers, staff, and the wider public about how the force handles internal investigations.” “While the force has appropriately referred this matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), I believe it is also necessary to examine more broadly how the Professional Standards Department operates, particularly in terms of support provided to officers under investigation and the culture of those investigations.” “To ensure transparency and fairness, I will be commissioning an independent review, led by a qualified individual from outside policing with relevant experience in assessing organisational practices and wellbeing.” “This review will not interfere with any ongoing investigations or statutory processes but will help the force and me as commissioner to better understand whether the current systems are appropriate, proportionate, and supportive.” “I have discussed this with acting chief constable Sam de Reya and the incoming chief constable Alexis Boon, and they both endorse this approach.” “I remain committed to ensuring high standards of integrity within the force, but also to ensuring that officers and staff are treated fairly and compassionately during difficult times.” “Further details about the scope and terms of the review will be shared in due course." Acting chief constable Sam de Reya has issued a video message to officers and staff across Hampshire police outlining where her teams can access support, it's understood.  In a statement she told the Echo: “Everyone is extremely shocked and saddened by Claire’s death and our thoughts remain with her family, friends and colleagues.   "Claire was a well loved and respected officer and colleague who had worked in many different departments and teams throughout her policing career. She will be missed by us all.”  Hampshire Constabulary has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the police watchdog.  Asked about the circumstances of PC Browne's death, a Hampshire police spokesman said: "Officers responded to a concern for welfare call at an address in Netley Abbey, at 11am, on Monday 7 July. Following the death of PD Zara from @PoliceScotland in December 2024, it is with deep sadness that we share new evidence indicating that PD Zara was let down by those within Police Scotland who were entrusted with her welfare. After reviewing her veterinary medical records, we can confirm that PD Zara’s prognosis was described as “great” following surgery, and that the specialist veterinary referral practice had requested authorisation for a CT scan to determine whether Zara required one or two surgeries. Instead of authorising the request from the veterinary specialists, the records show that the Inspector of the Police Scotland Dog Unit authorised the euthanasia of Police Dog Zara. Police Scotland has since extended an invitation to the foundation to meet with us in the coming weeks to discuss our concerns. We remain fully committed to securing justice for Police Dog Zara. 🌈 You can read our full updated statement on the death of Police Dog Zara on our website: bit.ly/3ShuFtc 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🐶🚔💙
