Sure, a $100 million four-day holiday opening weekend is perfectly okay for a $165 million Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. #BoxOffice

@pandersera I liked Boosters! My son appreciated the surreality, but I think he wanted a more grounded “young women shoplifting from upper-class clothing stores to sell at a discount” economic revenge” comedy. Still, at least he’s that much readier to seize those means of production.
English

@therealeverton Honestly, I'm inclined to argue that the film's sheer (laugh... or else) quality implies that it was just a "no corners cut" movie that just cost that much. I could be wrong, but I don't think Jackman was demanding $20 million upfront.
English

Hey @ScottMendelson I know #SheepDetetives is relitively effects heavy, because of the sheep,, but is the $75m also down to it being an Amazon film..as in is it a streaming inflated budget, or was it just that expensive because of the talent: writing, directing, acting & vfx?
English

It’s my pick for the best Street Fighter and/or Mortal Kombat adaptation ever made, even if its template is arguably closer to Pit Fighter.

GLADIATOR UNDERGROUND is one of the best tournament movies of the past few years mainly because it allows Andy and Brian Le a larger stage to fully show off their martial arts skills and inventive choreography! Oh yeah Brian Le has a little movie coming out soon….be ready!

@ScottMendelson @AKlay19 I was there for Song of the South.
Must've been its final theatrical run, right?
English

So, #Obsession had an even better second-weekend jump (+30%) than Disney’s 1986 rerelease of ‘Song of the South’!! And... also ‘Titanic’.
(It took the 3rd-biggest second-weekend jump ever for any movie opening on more than 2,000 screens but not debuting on or around Christmas)
English

@EDouglasWW I didn't mean "it should move," I meant "okay, now it's your turn." :-)
English

@ScottMendelson Backrooms has already sold so many tickets for this weekend, it has no reason to move. Obsession will probably take third place.
English

Among films that A) opened on at least 600 screens and B) didn’t open prior to Thanksgiving weekend or days before/on Christmas Day, #Obsession just had the second-best second-weekend hold (behind 1987’s ‘Adventures in Babysitting’). It jumped 39% for a $23.9M Fri-Sun gross.

@therealeverton Yes and no. But I consider films like this akin to Robocop, Terminator 2, Basic Instinct, Sinners, Weapons, Scream, Matrix, Die Hard, Exorcist, etc. “Adult movies” that can be formative cinematic experiences, specifically because a moviegoer saw them when they were young(er).
English

@ScottMendelson Me again causing trouble. Define "kids". I know Americans tend to call University as school, Uni students kids can't drink till their 21 so perhaps that's what you mean but... Kids? Even with the (weird from an outsiders view) non-barrier R rating this is an "adult" movie, right?
English

@therealeverton I think you mean 3-D sharks? And, alas, no.
English

@ScottMendelson Happy birthday Youngest!🎉
Sea World... any suspicious 3F sharks nearby?
English

@sperling @FocusFeatures I imagine such conversations are happening at the moment, but it’s not like it’ll get yanked out of theaters once it debuts on PVOD
English

@ScottMendelson Now the question on everyone's mind is... will @FocusFeatures keep OBSESSION in movie theatres or will they release it on PVOD in its third week?
English

@ScottMendelson Also the guy who directed This is Where You Leave Me, and the guy who directed the Ryan Reynolds/Jennifer Garner scene from The Adam Project. I just feel like Levy is a good director, especially with comedy/drama, but he's terrible when he has to make a "commercial" blockbuster.
English

Agreed. But if the guy who directed Free Guy (minus the brief lightsaber/Chris Evans scene) and Real Steel shows up, then maybe we’ve got a chance.
woop@woop54
I’m sorry there’s no way people think the guy who made Deadpool 3 is gonna point Star Wars in the right direction. I’m sure gosling will hold it up slightly but it’s gonna be awful
