Haringey Borough FC 2️⃣ - 1️⃣ AFC Welwyn
What a game of football this weekend as the new-look squad went toe-to-toe with the league leaders in a tough and intimidating environment. Despite the pressure, including plenty of noise from the home bench the lads stood strong and were extremely unlucky not to come away with at least a point after a hugely questionable late decision.
We struggled to find rhythm in the first half and losing Giuseppe before the break didn’t help. After changing shape we grew into the game.
15 minutes into the second half Clayton burst through, rounded the keeper and was brought down. Ollie Lawford stepped up and calmly slotted home under immense pressure from a packed crowd of around 600.
From then on it was backs to the wall defending goal-line clearances, last-ditch tackles, and real heart shown across the pitch. Haringey eventually equalised with six minutes left after a well-worked move, and in stoppage time a huge call from the linesman judged Trent to have handled outside the box from a goal kick. The resulting free kick took a deflection and crept in to hand them all three points.
MOTM went to our new keeper, Trent Carter-Rogers! outstanding throughout and kept us in the game with a top-class display.
I couldn’t fault the lads. The belief growing in that dressing room is clear to see, and that’s exactly what we’re building.Onto Tuesday against another top side, Biggleswade.
