Church on the hill. St George's Church on Everton Ridge, Liverpool. Built in 1814, it was the first church in the world to be constructed with a cast-iron frame, although the exterior is beautiful red sandstone. This technique of using a metal internal "skeleton" is considered a direct ancestor to the construction methods used for modern skyscrapers.

Our crew on the @Space_Station caught a glimpse of the @NASAArtemis II crew as they re-entered the atmosphere from their journey to the Moon! We first saw a bright light and a trail as the service module burned up. We didn’t see the Orion capsule itself as it re-entered, but we saw the wispy trail it left behind in the upper atmosphere. Overjoyed that our friends are safely back on Earth after their awe-inspiring mission!

We’re halfway there. At the time of posting this, the Artemis II mission is about halfway to the Moon. When the astronauts arrive, they will conduct a lunar flyby and collect scientific observations of the Moon’s surface.

The "8 Balls" astronaut class turns 10 today! 🎱 NASA's 21st astronaut class of 8 exceptional men and women, chosen from >6,000 candidates, was announced #OTD in 2013. 2 of them, @Astro_Christina and @AstroVicGlover, have since been selected to fly to the Moon on #Artemis II.

Of everything we learn, communication just might be the most important. We finished up 2023 training with teams from on how @nasaartemis crews will safely leave the Orion spacecraft in case of an emergency, which can mean understanding each other even through a sealed helmet when you’ve unplugged from the headsets. It was inspiring to watch the Artemis II launch yesterday — @NASA’s first crewed mission around the moon since 1972. Our space program has always captured an essential part of what it means to reach beyond what we thought was possible, and I hope the four brave astronauts on this mission will inspire a new generation to follow in their footsteps.
