Church on the hill. St George's Church on Everton Ridge, Liverpool. Built in 1814, it was the first church in the world to be constructed with a cast-iron frame, although the exterior is beautiful red sandstone. This technique of using a metal internal "skeleton" is considered a direct ancestor to the construction methods used for modern skyscrapers.

Our crew on the @Space_Station caught a glimpse of the @NASAArtemis II crew as they re-entered the atmosphere from their journey to the Moon! We first saw a bright light and a trail as the service module burned up. We didn’t see the Orion capsule itself as it re-entered, but we saw the wispy trail it left behind in the upper atmosphere. Overjoyed that our friends are safely back on Earth after their awe-inspiring mission!

Did you know Liverpool once held the secret to Britain's survival? Hidden beneath the stunning architecture of the former Martins Bank on Water Street lies a WWII secret straight out of a movie. In May 1940, with the threat of invasion looming, the Bank of England's national gold reserves were secretly moved from London to these very vaults. It was part of "Operation Fish", a mission to protect the nation's wealth and prepare it for a high-stakes shipment to Canada. Next time you walk past this Liverpool icon, remember: there was once enough gold under those pavements to power a country!

It's National Winston Churchill Day to commemorate when the British Prime Minister became an honorary U.S. citizen. USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81) flies the Royal Navy White Ensign on special occasions and always has a Royal Navy officer as a member of the ship's company.

The "Hidden Liver Bird" of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church, Liverpool. While the 1941 May Blitz melted or shattered almost every piece of stained glass in the building, this tiny fragment refused to break💪

Peek inside the Orion spacecraft: how four astronauts live, breathe, and survive on a journey to the Moon.At the top sits the Crew Module — the astronauts’ home in deep space. Picture sharing a living space no larger than two minivans with three crewmates for weeks on end. This compact habitat is where they work, sleep, eat, exercise, and yes… use the famously tricky space toilet (microgravity makes even basic biology an engineering challenge). It’s an intensely intimate environment that tests both technical skill and human resilience every single day.Yet this small Crew Module would be lifeless without the powerhouse directly beneath it: the European Service Module. Built by ESA, this vital section is the spacecraft’s life-support engine room. It carries the main propulsion engines that will maneuver Orion around the Moon, massive solar arrays that generate electricity, and the sophisticated systems that recycle air, produce drinkable water, and maintain comfortable temperatures in the deadly vacuum of space.Together, the Crew Module and European Service Module form Orion — not just a spacecraft, but a carefully engineered oasis designed to keep humans alive and thriving in the harsh, unforgiving void of deep space.

Get Ready.. Prepare yourself to witness history unfold right before your eyes! 🚀 For the first time ever, the entire Orientale Basin, a massive and mysterious region on the Moon’s surface, has been fully captured thanks to the efforts of NASA’s Artemis II crew. This remarkable achievement marks a huge step forward in space exploration, revealing a breathtaking new view of our celestial neighbor. The clarity and detail in this historic image are absolutely stunning! 🌕🛰️ As we move further into space, it reminds us of the endless wonders still waiting to be discovered.

We’re halfway there. At the time of posting this, the Artemis II mission is about halfway to the Moon. When the astronauts arrive, they will conduct a lunar flyby and collect scientific observations of the Moon’s surface.

The "8 Balls" astronaut class turns 10 today! 🎱 NASA's 21st astronaut class of 8 exceptional men and women, chosen from >6,000 candidates, was announced #OTD in 2013. 2 of them, @Astro_Christina and @AstroVicGlover, have since been selected to fly to the Moon on #Artemis II.

Of everything we learn, communication just might be the most important. We finished up 2023 training with teams from on how @nasaartemis crews will safely leave the Orion spacecraft in case of an emergency, which can mean understanding each other even through a sealed helmet when you’ve unplugged from the headsets. It also means being ready to learn new ways to do it better every time. Love this team and can’t wait to get back to it in 2024! instagram.com/p/C04gsrwuCyY/…

It was inspiring to watch the Artemis II launch yesterday — @NASA’s first crewed mission around the moon since 1972. Our space program has always captured an essential part of what it means to reach beyond what we thought was possible, and I hope the four brave astronauts on this mission will inspire a new generation to follow in their footsteps.

No other @premierleague club is proposing THREE YEARS of price rises to general admission tickets. Liverpool are - thanks to decision makers in Boston £70 tickets and £1,000 season tickets at Anfield? If that doesn’t anger you, it should! #stopexploitingloyalty
