Not enough talk about how HUGE this 3 was, too. What a set. Fake Pistol, decoy wide pin/tight curl, run the step-up guy off the real middle pin? Hurley has some filthy shit.

This is what happens when you start letting social media BS dictate your rules. Alyssa Thomas shouldn’t have been suspended for an accidental basketball play. Brondello shouldn’t have been suspended for using common sports language in a complaint to a ref. Poorly-run league.
The Athletic@TheAthletic

UPDATE: The WNBA has suspended Sandy Brondello without pay for one game for an inappropriate comment she made regarding Angel Reese. nyti.ms/4vFLq2z

I think a bit higher of Jaylen Brown, but I think this is a pretty reasonable read on all of this. He’s disgruntled. He’s redundant to JT. He has an ego. How many teams can even absorb that contract? How many teams can match it in a trade? Limited market. Cut your losses. Free up more opportunity for PP. Get a poor man’s version in PG. Get some picks. Highly doubt there was a better offer dangling around.
Pensare Basketball@PensareBBall

Jaylen Brown was not traded. Jaylen Brown was salary-dumped. The Celtics canvassed the league asking for anyone who might be interested. They were rebuffed. Repeatedly. They could not manage to get a Tre Murphy swap with fillers. They couldn't manage to get a Jrue Holiday + picks package. In the end, the Sixers offer was underwhelming, but it was the best one they had. And the Celtics learned what many front offices have known for a while. Top 25-30 players who get paid top 10 money become bottom 100 assets, even in their prime. The Celtics paid Jaylen Brown for the same reason the Clippers paid Paul George. They wanted to max out the contention window for their star by re-signing their supporting caste. It's a trap many teams fall into when trying to max contention windows. Klay got the bag post ACL injury because the Warriors wanted to help Steph. Myles got paid so the Bucks could help Giannis. Hell, right now the Raptors are about to pay Kawhi Leonard 170+ million over 3 years to help open up Scottie Barnes' window. But the reality is grim. 29ppg isn't enough anymore. Not without the impact, efficiency, defense and making your teammates better. Brown wasn't a great defender this year. He's an aggressive but less than superstar level scorer... And at nearly 60 million a year, with the analytical impact and player profile of an borderline All Star, the Celtics bet that Paul George + picks was worth getting off of one additional year of Jaylen Brown. It's not a popular decision. But it's reality. Front offices don't value him. Just like they didn't value Ja, BI and Trae Young. Learn the lesson. If you max out these types of players, you're going to be holding them well past expiration. Via The Hoop Collective Podcast

I think you both make good points, honestly. I think he’s right that Wiggins had to totally change what type of player he was and might have had a very different career trajectory if he kept working at what he was working on. I think you’re right that teams also don’t have an endless amount of time to let guys grow and there’s so much pressure to win now that you can’t spend years and years refining the skill like a young Jimmy Butler could. The goal of analytics is being more efficient & optimizing performance - sure. But there’s also something to be said for what happens if you don’t have the patience to let a guy learn on the fly and develop a skillset that’s harder to come by. His point is if you let Wig continue to develop that part of his game maybe he becomes a guy closer to Kawhi than just one of many 3 & D guys. Individual goals aren’t aligned always w team goals. Midrange does mean more in the playoffs and you need some guys that can do it. But as you say, not everyone can do it and you only have so many shots to go around @balldontstop

Well, that’s the point, Ball Don’t Stop. There are a ton of players in the league who could average 27 a game if you gave them the ball every possession and let them shoot a bunch of midrange jumpers. The question is whether that actually helps the team. Give Ace Bailey the ball every time down next season and he could probably average 27. Would it be an efficient 27? Probably not. Would his highlight reel look better than this Andrew Wiggins one? Yes. That is an offensive strategy you can choose. But you can’t give everyone the ball. There are only so many shots in a game. So what’s the goal here? Teams, players, and coaches are trying to win games. Wiggins had five seasons in Minnesota to prove he could be efficient in that kind of role. At the end of the day, he just wasn’t a good enough shooter to make it work. And I think you’d have to agree: how well a player shoots the ball is a pretty important factor in deciding whether the team should keep giving him those shots. Wiggins was shooting below 40% from midrange. It didn't make sense, for a team that wanted to win, to let him keep shooting them.
Ball Don't Stop@balldontstop

This is deeper, but I actually think analytics boom prevented Andrew Wiggins from being a multi time All-Star and bonafide superstar who put up 27/7/5. Look at these shots. His game was the prototype SF (Melo/PG/LBJ/Rudy) at that time, but the game switched very abruptly before he could emerge. Middy, elbow, slasher, 12 footers, long 2's, post fades...all iso half court buckets etc. opening up the rest of their attack. They love to say silly things like "the analytics actually say Shai or Booker are good mid-range shooters" 🤷🏽‍♂️ But how is a young player coming into a league that openly discourages that shot even prove they are elite in that category? They'd have to be rebels.

Crashing the offensive glass from 40 feet up 7 with 40 seconds left is batshit insane lol. I honestly refuse to believe no one on the Bucks knew what was going on. All of this is completely aberrational. NUTS.

Bobby Marks needs to stop dignifying these analytics tools in FO’s w airtime. Ridiculous, embarrassing, ludicrous argument that’s doing a disservice to an already shitty perception of analytics @D_West30 @FCHWPO. STOP IT. Jaylen Brown is one of BEST 2-way players in league PERIOD
NBACentral@TheDunkCentral

Some executives around the league believe that, analytically, Jaylen Brown isn’t a high-level player and has been a net negative for Boston over the past four years, per @BobbyMarks42

People need to watch clips at game speed. I understand this looks awful zoomed in & slowed to a crawl. I guarantee if someone finds the live full speed game film, it looks far less malicious. People are just making things fit their narratives w Clark.

100%. Seeing it game speed it’s even more apparent there is ZERO malicious intent here. We have a societal problem of evaluating things 300% Zoom, 3% speed. Lots of things can look a lot worse than they are under a magnifying glass like that. This is a nothingburger.
