Yes. You can most definitely use ball screens against a zone defense. Utah State just showed that against Villanova.

A bad shot is a turnover. It kills momentum and drains the energy of the four other players on the floor. Treat it with the same seriousness.

I like this Mason Falslev kid. Everytime I see him on the court he is scoring by cutting to the basket. It's nice to have a 🎒 but it's also nicer if you move without the ball and find yourself wide open and score easy buckets.

Rockford stayed calm & disciplined. East Lansing got nervous & reactive. That might win you games in the regular season. But when the lights are brightest… Team basketball > individual takeover.

Last year, they looked like Rockford did in this game: Cutting to the basket. Moving without the ball. Not relying solely on athleticism. Defensively anticipating instead of reacting. That’s winning basketball.

As I watched many playoff games and seen teams more than once, what I see is coaches getting burned because what they allowed all season from their team\players bites them when it matters. PG’s don’t pass and take awful shots, teams not finding the open teammate, teams not understanding time and score.

The best player on a team isn’t always the player who scores the most. Sometimes it’s the player who has a high IQ or a diverse/versatile skill set or a player who is unselfish & coachable or who knows their role inside & out. Basing “good” only on points scored is a big mistake!

There’s nothing more dangerous in high school basketball than an unselfish star player. The one who passes when they could shoot, plays defense like their scholarship depends on it, and lifts their teammates. Talent wins games — but humility wins championships.
