🚨New Paper Alert🚨 Southern California waters are lit up with noise pollution 🚢💥🌊. The Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach are the busiest shipping ports in the western hemisphere, supporting transits from container ships that radiated noise throughout the region.

📢 New paper alert 📢 Sperm whales are making an appearance in the Canadian Arctic, a region they are not historically found in. @Scripps_Ocean @Scripps_MBARC @Scripps_AEL @KWestdal @solsona_alba

.@solsona_alba uses 15+ years of data (!) showing less beaked whale activity with sonar at daily & annual timescales. Hattaras whales rarely hear sonar & likely respond at MUCH lower levels than California, where sonar is common. Important results at #ESOMM2022 w/ @Scripps_AEL
