I think today is going to be one of those days when I vacillate between I ought to be on the sea and I’m glad I’m ashore.

The gannet colony at Troup Head is very impressive, especially from a sea kayak. After paddling there last weekend I did wonder what impact avian flu had had. Here’s a good update from @RSPBScotland with how the colony is doing this season.

‘Local Hero’. Wonderful to paddle with @LifeAfloat again as he continues his year long circumnavigation of Scotland. We stopped at Pennan on the Aberdeenshire coast, the setting for the 1980s film classic ‘Local Hero’. Quite fitting really 😊 #localhero #pennan #scotland

That delicious, almost sensuous, feeling of warmth & cosiness, sitting in the tent, with the rain drumming a tattoo, a steaming mug of tea & the sense of accomplishment of making it to this point. I’m now in Fraserburgh. 😊

This is me paddling around the northern point of mainland Scotland (Britain) yesterday. I was lucky enough to have a new paddling friend join me for the day. It was lovely to have his company.
