@HerndonforIdaho Abolishing property taxes would be a massive transfer of wealth from young citizens to the elderly.

Property tax isn't a fee for service. It's a penalty for owning a nicer home. Three houses on the same road. Same fire truck. Same sheriff. Same snowplow. One pays $5,000. One pays $2,500. One pays $1,250. If it were a fee for service, they'd all pay the same. They don't. Because it was never about services. A Bonner County woman's family has owned their property for 116 years. The house never burned down. Most of those decades, no kids in school. But the bill went up every single year. Property tax is a penalty for owning property the market decided is worth more. There is no fairness in that system. Idaho has the revenue to fund services without it. I'm fighting to eliminate it entirely.

The American government beat it's own White citizens back in the 60's so blacks could do this in our communities today.

One family. One property. 116 years of property taxes. Her grandfather bought land in Bonner County in 1910, three years after the county was formed. It passed to her parents in the 1940s, then to her. Never sold on the open market. Same family for 116 years. Every year the county tells her what it's "worth" based on what someone else's house sold for. Every year the bill goes up. The kitchen still has her Mom's cookstove from the 1940s. Her father was a cat mechanic at the logging camps. Her mother cooked at Priest Lake. They cleared the brush by hand and built the home that's still standing today. 116 years of property taxes on land that has never been sold. When is it enough? #idpol #PropertyTax #idleg

@ColonelMark4 @HerndonforIdaho These other revenue sources, for rural countries especially, account for almost none of their revenue. Rural counties fund their spending overwhelmingly via property taxes.

“County Services” revenue also comes from taxes on telephones, utilities, gasoline, DL, auto purchases, hunting and fishing licenses, list is far too long. I live in the 2nd poorest county in the state and it spends more on County Public health for will nots and illegals than on roads and bridges. Oh and our firefighters are all volunteer units.

@HerndonforIdaho I'm not saying it's the ONLY possible way, an efficient way, or even the best way to pay for these services. I'm simply saying the argument of "why do we keep having to pay them every year?" doesn't make much sense when your consider the recurring nature of the expenses.

@HerndonforIdaho I'm as far to the right as anyone, but property taxes are pretty necessary. Just because you built your house doesn't mean you don't use any county services. The police force, snow removal, road maintenence, prosecution services, jails, etc they all come out of that pot.
