@brianfauteux One of my favourite Lightfoot tunes for this reason. Threatening to kill someone but just being so laid back about it.

"Lean-back listening" is when I'm seated in a Muskoka chair with a cold one listening to Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown (1974)

@AsVacation @CAyimbro @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview @MikeFellman (Texas wages are also growing faster than the average state too, which means construction in Texas is above average for an above average state, exactly the type of wage you'd think would bring more people to Texas and to the sector) (But I'm the dumbest one here, so *shrug*)

In @BostonReview, I review Abundance. Reviving a "liberalism that builds" is a worthy goal but the book's proposed program is unlikely to deliver that and would perpetuate oligarchy.

@michaeldomps @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview They get into it man! And some of it is "take away steps" and some of it is "don't require as many conditions" and some of it is "take away veto points" Buddy I promise you reading the book will take less time than twitter warring about it. It's not that long a book!

@Sean2pt0 @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview If the book just says the project started in Year X and was deferred and delayed for years and costs mounted that’s not what I’m looking to see Where due the money go? What is the real cause? If the solution is “take away steps” that’s deep sigh

@Sean2pt0 @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview I’ve heard EK talk about the very expensive public housing project Specifically him asking people why it’s so expensive to build public housing in CA Does he answer that in the book because he seems not to know on podcasts

@Merleau1979 @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview This link bolsters my argument if anything? It argues that “yes our data shows new housing is good and helps poor people, but what we also wonder is, what if it didn’t” Let’s build a shit ton more house and see, I guess?

@michaeldomps @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview It’s actually public housing built in cali more generally with serve al generalized lessons for the country as a whole, but this question and many more could be answered by reading the dang book!

@Sean2pt0 @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview You just said “how public housing is built in SF” SF is a very wealthy small city with ultra expensive land Is their discussion about public housing or about “San Francisco public housing”

@CAyimbro @MikeFellman @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview It was a reference to modular buildings which are allowed in China - and many other capitalist places - that was being used as an example of an innovation that is barred from use in America. You are ignore the trust of the argument to focus on China for some reason.

@Sean2pt0 @MikeFellman @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview Let me help you out, Sean - you said “China is putting up 10-story buildings in a day” like that’s just a regulatory issue. It’s not. The difference isn’t permits - it’s that China has a totally different economic system.

@MikeFellman @CAyimbro @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview It's a housing innovation that is proven to work and illegal in America - who cares how the Chinese fund it? You're obfuscating the point that innovation CAN happen in the sector it's just not allowed. DO YOU THINK MODULAR HOUSING IS INHERENTLY COMMUNIST!?!

@CAyimbro @MikeFellman @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview When you make a system unnecessarily complex and a small group have figured out how to navigate and benefit from it, yes, they will then argue "the system works" - I'm surprised given your tenor you'd believe evil developers !

@CAyimbro @MikeFellman @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview Oh the people that are currently benefiting don't want a change!? I'M SHOCKED! Ok as a dare, and because it won't work, let's try it in SF and see what happens? If they drop housing caps and parking mins and expedite approval and nothing happens then I'll believe it.

@big_merg @CAyimbro @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview @MikeFellman This is typical of abundance critiques - zero engagement with policy proposals, no reference to data. Pure vibes. Love it. 10/10 (I'm glad that rents are falling in some places, I guess Texas has less hollow government than... California?)

@Sean2pt0 @CAyimbro @sandeepvaheesan @BostonReview @MikeFellman Maybe if you finally accept the critique of abundance: that it’s not truly the government putting those restrictions but the hollowed form of government corrupted by *gasp* rich property developers and owners you might finally fucking get it.
