To answer a few messages in one go. The same method can be used in shooting exercises. The shooter has to scan between ball, closing defender and GK position not be able to see all w/out scanning as ball served from next to goal by defender who then closes them down. Good luck.

When your dad pays $60 per hour for elite private training three times a week to run around cones, and then you face a real defender in your first game.

I've found simply saying, "can you make your passes look like the real game?" Another lightbulb to get the players thinking. Sometimes short passes, longer passes, aerial passes, different control techniques, mobility around the pitch from support player.

It’s mad that this needs saying. The idea that you can lose fitness or skill in a week is everywhere. Repetition is seen as a keep safe, and it’s nonsense. I’ve seen “good hurlers” come back after 5-10 years and play a game. Within 15 mins they more or less have their “touch” back. Yet people want kids playing the one sport all year thinking it gets them better. And/or the notion that missing a session or a week is damaging - it’s probably a help. What about Johnny Sexton playing very little rugby and reaching a world class level in 1st game back? Or numerous hurlers, soccer or Gaelic Footballers who come back from ACL and are very quickly BETTER than before the injury. Why? They got injured from overload, but the enforced rest regulates their nervous system.🤷🏽‍♂️ This reaches all the way down to kids. Once they can strike a ball they have largely developed that action capability and coordination- move on. Challenge further. You don’t need to repeat striking drills for the next 12 years. Take a break, and chill out parents and coaches. instagram.com/reel/Cz4jpJhPW…

***PLEASE SHARE*** This is a survey for people to share with anyone at all who has interacted with Development Squads in Gaelic games and for players to fill out. Katie and Aoife are 2 young TY students from Monaghan who are investigating the impact on Mental Health of Development squads for young talented athletes in Gaelic Games. Help them with their research. They are entered into the Young Scientists Competition, an achievement in itself to get accepted. Please share with everyone you know who you know was involved in recent times with a development squad, or has a child involved. And of course if development coaches and County Boards could share with their participants also that would be great. The more players who contribute the better the analysis. docs.google.com/forms/d/1doPDU…

@McClementsinOz Can’t see Dalglish’s autobiography there. What are you teaching these kids. They should be reading the classics……

I absolutely love #BookWeek fun! Reading books galore, costume parades, Book Fair and this year, the Challis Book drive. Thanks to so many donations from local libraries, schools and the community, we sent home over 900 students with 5 books each of their own choosing! 📚 📖 ❤️
