@MoneyGrabFC Also I think that emerging tech in computer vision will actually change this paradigm - if a model can see a players technique, break down their mechanics relative to pros, and provide feedback this could be HUGE for players that don’t have access to high quality coaches

No player has ever gone pro in soccer without the use of an app and a crap bit of plastic. If you're not counting the number of unopposed touches your child makes as they dance around cones, you're failing as a parent.

@MoneyGrabFC Get what ur saying, but children of pros tend to become better players. They have access to feedback on technique, mentality, etc… if an app can provide even a cheap imitation of this and get kids pumped to get off the couch and play, it’s a win in my book

Academies asking for parents’ height to help predict the future physical profile of a player… Is this really the direction youth development should be going? Physicality matters, of course. But would players like Vitinha or João Neves have been selected in some systems at younger ages? Or would they have been overlooked because they were “too small” or “couldn’t get around the pitch” early enough?

USMNT names its World Cup roster next Tuesday. Pochettino spent his tenure grading every player in camp or contention. By next week, all of them know exactly where they stand. Same week, my U10 wraps a 30-week club season. His coach showed up every Tuesday and Thursday. What we never got: a single written line home on what he got better at. At the top of US soccer, evaluation is constant. At the bottom, cadence doesn't exist.

Changed clubs her senior year and the new club promoted her college commitment (happened 6 months prior) as part of their “development pathway”. She had not played a minute for them yet
