Don’t fall for the fake Fox/GOP outrage. Two weeks ago the House passed a bill that greenlighted the transfer of Spanish territory to Morocco. Every Republican except me voted for it, but now THEY are acting shocked at the invasion. congress.gov/119/bills/hr85… congress.gov/119/bills/hr94…

“What’s Love Got to Do With It” is from Tina Turner’s 1984 album Private Dancer. The song became her biggest solo hit, spending three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It finished as the #2 song on Billboard's 1984 Year-End Hot 100, behind Prince's "When Doves Cry," while also topping the charts in Australia and Canada. At 44 years old Turner became the oldest female solo artist at the time to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally offered to several artists including Cliff Richard, Donna Summer, and Bucks Fizz, before Tina Turner agreed to record it, initially believing it didn't suit her musical style. Co-writer Terry Britten had originally envisioned the song being sung by a man, but Tina's emotionally detached yet powerful interpretation completely transformed its character. The track went on to win the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, completing one of the greatest career comebacks in popular music and becoming her signature solo recording.

@Lady_FanAccount It was a glorious moment to witness as a kid. There was a lot of talk of her age & I remember being so happy for her success. But now I'm sitting here at 56 wondering how 44 was considered old! 😃

@awkwardgoogle They were worried about a Black man holding her hand but not the pedophiles exposing themselves to her. Ok, that's very American.

In 1935, Hollywood execs were uncomfortable with Shirley Temple and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson holding hands while dancing in 'The Little Colonel.' Despite the studio's racial anxieties, Robinson took her hand during rehearsals to guide her steps, creating Hollywood's first interracial dance partnership.

@RightWingWatch The real question is, if Emmett Till didn't accomplished anything in life, then why is HE using all of HIS energy to worry about what WE think?

White nationalist Jared Taylor fumes about the "idolatry" of Emmett Till: "Isn't it pathetic to nourish hatred by making a hero out of a boy who accomplished nothing in life but be killed? Aren't any blacks revolted by this?"

1/2 Trying to better my understanding of traditional Akan architecture—this book might be old, but the information is golden. Traditional Asante architecture developed within the forest regions of West Africa through the interaction of multiple cultural and environmental traditions. Its development reflected centuries of migration, political consolidation and cultural exchange between Akan-speaking communities of the coastal forest and peoples of the northern savanna. The result was a distinctive architectural tradition built primarily from earth, timber, wattle and daub, with thatched roofs, carved columns, ornamented screens, sculpted reliefs and elaborately treated walls. The courtyard, or gyase, formed the spatial and spiritual center of the Asante compound. Houses, shrines and palaces were commonly arranged as four rectangular buildings surrounding an open square courtyard, creating spaces for cooking, washing, religious ceremonies, political deliberation and domestic life. Many courtyards contained a nyame dua, or “God’s tree,” which served as a sacred altar and symbolized ancestry, continuity and the establishment of a family or community’s place within the universe. Shrine houses followed similar plans, with rooms dedicated to sacred stools, drums, attendants and food preparation. This demonstrates that Asante architecture was not merely functional shelter; its spatial organization expressed relationships among the living, the ancestors, spiritual powers and political authority.
