Hey Mario, Enjoy these posts. I do think creators can impact point 3 (Brand). If they focus on making quality content, their reputation for the subsequent videos can be impacted quite quickly. fern are a good example of this, despite being a relatively new channel still, you know instantly that it will be a good video each time. The opposite can also happen with clickbait etc. So if creators focus on quality and delivering on their packaging, this should improve brand familiarity.

Up until now, most people have assumed that the two most important aspects of a clickable YouTube video are the title and the thumbnail. However, this is not entirely true. I agree that the title and thumbnail are very important for your video. However, there are other important things that go into the decision-making process of a video. So, let's talk about some other important factors that affect a viewer's choice and how we can make the best use of this knowledge. (1) Social Proof: How many times a video has been watched. The first factor is social proof; which is the amount of times a video has been watched by others. People often choose which videos to watch based on the amount of views it already has generated. Think about a video called "How I Built My First $1M Business." A video with 500 views or one with 12,000 or even 120,000 views? Which would you click on? Unfortunately, social proof only helps big creators and not small ones unless you use special techniques like ads, endscreen traffic pushing, or other ways to get people to watch your content. Small creators should know that some ideas need a certain amount of social proof to properly work. My team and I have looked into how many views are needed for social proof to work. For most educational content, 10,000 views seems to be the magic number that makes creators benefit from social proof. When it comes to entertainment content, this number seems to be 100,000. In both types of content, you have cases when you need more or less. (2) Novelty: How old is a YouTube video? The second thing that viewers consider when choosing which content to watch is its novelty. For instance, a week old vs. a year old. Interestingly, people have a bias called "novelty bias," which means they tend to like and think that newer videos are better. Unlike the last one, knowing about this one can benefit a lot of creators. Imagine an idea that was executed seven years ago; do you believe it has potential to perform again? We frequently see trends that are variations or exact copies of what was done a few years ago, and they still work. Why? Because people don't always want new ideas. In fact, they often really want something they’re familiar with; but with new packaging. My call to action is to revisit ideas that haven't been executed for a while but are evergreen enough to work at any time. There is little reason why these concepts shouldn't be successful again. (3) Familiar Brand: Being known to the viewer. Finally, people do look at the name and profile icon of the person who posted the video. A known name or icon draws people in because it reminds them of a good time they had before, which makes it more likely that they will enjoy the suggested video. When you know a name, you can trust it. It might not be easy to act on the information in this post, but think about these things, especially before copying ideas where social proof, novelty, and familiarity could play a big role.

@PhedEU That is a good swipe rate for 1m views. Interesting that it took 12 days to take off. What was the duration of your video?

Notes: (1 of 3) Our best short so far crossed 1M views today and is not gonna stop anytime soon by the looks of it Average Percentage Viewed at over 115% and Swipe Rate at 86-14, which in my understanding for a video with 1M+ views is great Could very likely be our first 10M+ view video if it gets a nice push over the weekend

@itsrazzhd Everyone gets 10/10s from time to time. If you’re hitting close to 50k views on your ‘worst’ videos, you’re doing ok imo 🙌

That’s interesting. Yeah, I do agree for stuff under 7 days that viewstats is still better. I honestly think the searching outliers is pretty weak on viewstats. For thumbnails, I tried it for improving John Nellis’ latest thumbnail, and didn’t see anything that could help but I will give that a bit more time to see if it works on other concepts.

@SebLosardo @1of10media @viewstats Mate, I’ve been conducting the same experiment. But I came down the other way! Viewstats has more videos included, which is super useful for more timely content. I’ve found the search is bad, but once you select a thumbnail and search from that, it’s great!

For anyone looking for outliers on YouTube, and choosing between @1of10media & @viewstats, I do think 1of10 is clear. I’ve found the search tool to be way less helpful on viewstats, unless you know exactly what to search. This sort of defeats the whole point to me. I came because I didn’t know what I was looking for. The biggest upside I’ve seen is recent search on viewstats is better. So if your content is more reactive (like football), then it has some value. Overall, viewstats is amazing but I would not recommend the $50 per month pro tools, just use the free site.
