Interesting podcast, highlighting the importance and some of the problems with courts reporting. Frankly, while reporting is necessary, there needs to be restrictions on reporting the personal details of the accused.

@DaveSEire @courtsnewsIRL What makes you think they feel fear? And yes, a quarter of a century ago, when people knew enough about morality to make an informed decision, unlike when laws allowing capital punishment were typically put on the books. Capital punishment is dark ages stuff.

@SecretS0ffender @courtsnewsIRL A quarter of a century ago. It’s perfectly just. The fear those murderers feel in their final moments before their worthless lives are ended is true justice.

Jozef’s Puska's appeal against his conviction for the murder of schoolteacher Ashling Murphy has been further delayed after he decided to change his barristers less than a week before the hearing was due to begin. Puska, who told detectives that he stopped working in 2017 after slipping a disk in his back, has been granted legal aid for his appeal on the same basis as his representation during his trial - where he was allocated a solicitor, a senior counsel and two junior counsel. The Court of Appeal has been told that Ms Murphy’s family are “anxious” to see the case proceed. courtsnewsireland.ie/ashling-murphy…

@jaymurt2805 @courtsnewsIRL No normal person celebrates the death of another person. If you do, or would, you should probably see a psychiatrist before you do something you'll wind up sharing a cell with him for.

@crimeworld_com Four months for sexual assault on a 14 year old, plus harassing her mother? They shouldn’t be giving out four month sentences for anything but how did he get such a low sentence in the first place, and what was he thinking when he appealed?

@DaveSEire @courtsnewsIRL It was put to a referendum and the abolish the death penalty won comfortably. And the state executing anyone is unjust. The only just reason to kill someone is self-defence or defence of others who are in immediate danger.

@SecretS0ffender @courtsnewsIRL What’s unjust about a state executing murderers? If it was put to a referendum, the pro-death penalty side would win by landslide.

@caulmick @Independent_ie To be fair, if you’re giving someone a character reference, why would you make any reference to their victim? You probably know nothing about the victim.

Brenda Power: Nameless TD who vouched for a paedophile owes us all an explanation ..the judge was sufficiently disgusted by this TD’s intervention to point out that neither this person, nor the several others who submitted testimonials on the pervert’s behalf, made any reference to his 13-year-old victim, nor the “vile nature” of his crime. It was “quite extraordinary”, said Judge John Edwards, that “not a single one” of his supporters spared a thought for the child who was targeted by Daniel Ramamoorthy (38) when he volunteered at a Christian children’s camp in 2017. independent.ie/opinion/commen…

A 14 year old boy placed in Tusla care absconded from a hospital after Gardaí were unable to transfer him to a suitable placement due to fuel protest blockades, a court has heard. The teenager had been admitted to the hospital as a temporary “social admission” when transport to a Tusla placement in Dublin was not possible. After leaving the hospital, the boy briefly stayed with a friend before being returned to Tusla, but ongoing difficulties in securing appropriate accommodation quickly became clear. Social workers told the court that no foster placement was immediately available due to the complexity of the case, leading to a series of short term arrangements, including a night in a hotel staffed by care workers and a one night foster placement. The court heard that Tusla’s National Placement Team still had no confirmed bed for the boy, with officials unable to say where he would be staying from one day to the next. The teenager himself has expressed a wish to return home, though his parents do not believe it is appropriate at this time. Solicitor for TUSLA, Kevin Sherry said that accommodation-wise for the teenager “we don’t know where he will be from day to day’. The court appointed-independent voice of the child, the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) told the court “there is a serious problem” that TUSLA is applying for an Interim Care Order (ICO) for the body “but don’t know where they are going to place him tonight”. The GAL asked how can the boy do counselling or participate in any other therapeutic intervention in such circumstances. He said: “He is sitting in the TUSLA offices right now. He probably won’t know until 6pm this evening which part of the country he will be driven to and that could be two hours away like it was on Monday evening.” He said: “It is no criticism of anyone in the court today but as a system how can TUSLA come in saying ‘we want a care order’ but they can’t say where the boy will be tonight?” “Something has to change - it is not right for the boy.” Judge Adrian Harris extended the Interim Care Order and warned that such unstable arrangements may be causing additional harm to the child. He directed Tusla to provide evidence of suitable accommodation if it is not secured in the coming days. The case arose after an incident at home involving a dispute over the boy’s mobile phone, which his mother had previously confiscated.

@777dublino @VirginMediaNews I don’t know if “satisfaction” is the right word but regardless of the result of his appeal, having a robust judicial system, of which a robust appeal system is a vital part, is good for all of us. It’s a pity it’s needed but it’s important.

@SecretS0ffender @VirginMediaNews Ah, it will. I'll get satisfaction as will many when his appeal is rejected. I'm sure you'll be glad also? We can't have these these criminals making a mockery of our already weal judicial system.
