BUSINESS PERSONS vs BLACK TAX
One thing many business persons don’t talk about yet they struggle with is actually black tax.
Not everybody but many people out there assume business people have so much idle money which should be handed out.
The truth is whenever you see a real business person, pray for them because they have simply developed thick skins but struggle with a lot.
Am business person and I meet many business people who I often a get chance to have heart to heart business challenges.
One of the biggest threats for Ugandan owned businesses is black tax and contributes a lot to gap that exists between foreign owned businesses and local owned ones.
I have been to public offices where someone will help a foreign person not you but when they get a problem, they won’t run the foreign business person, they will seek help from you who they didn’t help.
A Ugandan business person is born in a large family, has a large pool of friends and associates with a big number with a lot of expectations of who they see as successful.
I for example belong to many groups as well which means there are calls for financial help, I probably see or receive a minimum of 20 per day.
Someone either needs school fees, someone has died, or sick, a wedding, graduation, charity this or that and all those require money.
Sometimes when someone has passed on and I say I will send what would have been my fuel and other expenses, some people will say why didn’t come as well?
Yes, when time and resources allows I can do both but rear, sometimes it’s 3 directions and it’s hard to choose, what about work? If you know many people, it’s even harder.
I always observe when I have contributed say ushs 100k to a challenge, some people get so shocked, only ushs 100k, especially those who contribute nothing
They most times they don’t know you have had to contribute to 10 challenges that day and figures add up so quickly. If you contributed ushs 100k to 20 challenges, that’s ushs 2m.
A business person has loans, suppliers, his personal dreams, family, some extended family members, salaries, taxes( many taxes) on their heads, they just don’t shout about these challenges.
HOW TO MANAGE!
I for example earn a monthly salary from my work place or places, they are the hand that feeds me and hundreds more and that salary is mainly for immediate family.
I have some small incomes on the side once in a while, it’s from that that I often sort out some of black tax challenges but I fight hard not cut off the hand that feeds me which is business.
Businesses support the work of Great Lakes foundation, amongst them are 2 hospitality training centers, pay fees and other things.
From my salary I plan for the rainy days as well because those days come to everyone and that’s means you won’t see me in those spending environments in nights. I have had expensive medical needs but discipline has helped me cover them.
I have also learnt to say no and still have a good night sleep, I struggled with that earlier in the business life and I almost closed business because I would give out business money to things that have nothing to do with it.
Those days, a guy would turn up and say I know you are busy, send me to the accountant, I would stupidly do that. They would inform another and before you know it, things are heading south.
I have also learnt to study situations before I commit to them, I will contribute to school fees if I have a plan to maintain paying. If I don’t have a plan I just say nope!

Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, had been booked on American Airlines Flight 11 on the morning of September 11, 2001, a routine transcontinental service from Boston to Los Angeles.
The night before, he had been at his alma mater, Rhode Island School of Design, giving a lecture.
After the event he went out for drinks with friends, woke up the next morning with a hangover, and arrived at the airport just 15 minutes too late to board.
At the gate he was told "I'm sorry, they just closed the gate. You're too late." He made his way to the airport lounge, booked the next available flight, and fell asleep.
He woke up roughly 40 minutes later to learn that Flight 11 had crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. All 92 people on board were kil*ed

@CMasiga Have you tried Jinja - ketosi - Mukono section, it is another good one especially daytime. Midnight upto early morning hours Jinja main highway 🛣 always better. And also, on another busy day as person, you'll need to hire a professional Chauffeur very familiar with the highway

Just got back from a trip to Busia. I’ve always taken the new Kayunga road-longer, but smooth, safe and a real escape from the traffic nightmare. I got tempted and now with regret went back to the k'la- jinja highway. It was a disaster... Its a race btn huge trucks, potholes and blinding darkness. I was on the edge the entire time, a constant feeling of eminent risk!! I could not help but anticipate the worst the entire. Driving there is an actual traumatic experience. If potholes are costly, lets at least prioritize lighting. @MoWT_Uganda

Alarming reduction in wildlife numbers in Queen Elizabeth National Park
The declining wildlife sightings in Queen Elizabeth National Park are becoming harder to ignore, and if urgent action is not taken, Uganda could be facing a serious conservation and tourism challenge in one of its most iconic protected areas.
During my recent visit, I made an evening game drive expecting the usual thrill that many visitors travel across the world to experience. To my surprise, the entire drive produced only one elephant sighting, something that would have once seemed unusual in a park known for its rich biodiversity. Even the morning game drive, which is normally one of the most rewarding experiences for tourists, is slowly becoming less meaningful unless someone is lucky enough to spot a lion.
For a destination that has long been promoted as one of Uganda’s premier safari parks, this should raise concern. Tourism depends heavily on visitor experience. People spend significant amounts of money to travel to Uganda because they expect to see thriving wildlife populations in their natural environment. When those encounters become rare, it does not only affect tourist satisfaction, but it also threatens the reputation of the entire destination.
Several factors could be contributing to this worrying trend.
One possible cause is poaching, which still remains a threat in many conservation areas despite stronger protection efforts. Illegal hunting does not only reduce animal numbers directly, but it also disrupts breeding patterns and weakens long-term population recovery.
Another growing concern is human-wildlife conflict. Communities living near protected areas often suffer crop destruction and livestock losses caused by wildlife. In retaliation, some animals especially predators like lions have been poisoned. Uganda has already lost notable numbers of lions in Queen Elizabeth due to such incidents, and every loss of a breeding animal creates a much larger impact on future populations.
Habitat pressure may also be playing a role. As surrounding human populations grow, pressure on land, grazing areas, and water sources increases. Wildlife may be forced deeper into less accessible parts of the park, making sightings less frequent while also reducing available habitat for healthy population growth.
It also raises an important question about monitoring, When was the last full wildlife census conducted in Queen Elizabeth National Park?
Without updated data, it becomes difficult to understand the true scale of the problem. Numbers on paper may still look acceptable, while the reality on the ground may be showing a different story. A fresh census could reveal whether the decline in sightings is temporary or a sign of a much larger conservation problem.
The focus now should not only be on protecting what remains, but on rebuilding populations before the situation becomes irreversible.
For example, Uganda has strong buffalo populations in other protected areas such as Kidepo Valley National Park, and with proper ecological assessment, certain species could potentially help reinforce numbers in struggling parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park. However, such decisions would need scientific guidance to avoid creating new imbalances.
Queen Elizabeth remains one of Uganda’s most valuable tourism assets, but conservation cannot rely on reputation alone. If wildlife numbers continue to fall, the park may slowly remain famous in name while losing the experience that made it special in the first place.
The time to act is before visitors begin asking why one of Uganda’s most celebrated parks no longer feels alive.
