UPDATE | City Parking apologises after clamping woman’s vehicle during child’s medical emergency City Parking has issued a public apology following widespread public outrage over the clamping of a woman’s vehicle while she was attending to her five-year-old son, who was experiencing a medical emergency in Harare’s CBD. According to the mother, she had briefly stopped and parked her vehicle so she could administer emergency oxygen to her son. However, shortly after parking, City Parking officials clamped her vehicle. She said she tried to explain that her son urgently needed medical attention, but her pleas were ignored. She also did not have any money with her to pay the parking fee or the fine required to have the clamp removed. In a public statement, City Parking expressed regret over the incident and apologised to the affected family and the public. The company confirmed that management had contacted the mother and released the vehicle. It also announced a full investigation into the conduct of the staff involved and said appropriate action would be taken. City Parking further said it will review its clamping procedures to ensure emergency situations are handled with compassion and urgency. In addition, all staff will undergo mandatory customer service and sensitivity training, with a particular focus on dealing with vulnerable people and medical emergencies. The company concluded by wishing the young boy a speedy recovery and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring public trust by implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
