Yesterday we gathered as a local community in Valentines Park to unveil a memorial tree to commemorate the 1984 massacre of thousands of Sikhs in India, the Sikh genocide. We shall never forget 1984.

Thank you to @RedbridgeLive @DoMoreRed for the memorial tree and plaque to commemorate the 1984 Sikh Genocide. Great to see @wesstreeting @Jas_Athwal @KamRai7 @SunnyBrarUK @NavJohal1 etc. today in Valentines Park, Ilford for the unveiling of the plaque. Those gathered were told the investigators, courts and leading politicians in India recognise November 1984 as a Genocide: Delhi High Court judgement stated the massacres of Sikhs amounted to ‘crimes against humanity’. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) equated the 1984 massacre of Sikhs with the Genocide of Jews by Nazis in its evidence to the Supreme Court of India. @PMOIndia @narendramodi stated the killing of Sikhs in 1984 was a ‘big, horrendous genocide’ and the 1884 massacre is a ‘blemish which would not go, even after 50 generations.’

Thank you @RedbridgeLive for planting a tree in Valentines Park in memory of those who lost their lives in the #SikhGenocide1984. A meaningful act of remembrance - let's encourage other towns and cities across the UK to follow suit 🌳🙏🏾.
