Survived multiple IED blasts in Iraq that scrambled his brain so badly he can barely function. Medically retired because his country BROKE him. And YOU decided his earned retirement pay should be STOLEN, dollar for dollar, because he also has the audacity to receive VA disability for the brain injuries YOUR wars gave him. $1,000 for a baby who hasn't drawn a single breath of service. ZERO for the combat-wounded veteran who can't remember what day it is because of an IED in Fallujah. You blocked the Major Richard Star Act (S.Amdt.4056) on October 8, 2025, because you said we "cannot afford" $9.75 billion over TEN YEARS for 54,000 combat-wounded veterans. That is less than $1 billion a year. Then ONE DAY LATER, you voted YEA on a $924.7 BILLION defense bill. You then voted YEA on a $1.5 TRILLION continuing resolution. You found $8+ billion for foreign military aid in those bills alone, which is more than the ENTIRE 10-year cost of the Star Act. You co-sponsored this same bill in 2021. You KNOW retirement pay and disability pay are TWO SEPARATE compensations for TWO SEPARATE things. Retirement is for years served. Disability is for bodies destroyed. Calling it "double dipping" is like telling someone their employer should cut their 401k because they filed a health insurance claim. Chad Rogers, 100% disabled Army veteran, summed up what you did to him perfectly: "We are retired without retirement." Let that sink in, Senator. A man who gave his body to this country, who cannot work because of what combat did to him, gets NOTHING from the retirement he EARNED because you think paying a man for his service AND compensating him for his injuries is too generous. Major Richard Star, the man this bill is NAMED AFTER, was an Army engineer from Ohio who breathed burn pit poison in Iraq until cancer ate his lungs. He spent his FINAL DAYS on oxygen tanks, barely able to stand, walking the halls of Congress begging people like you to do the right thing. He died in 2021. His wife Tonya picked up where he left off. She called my colleagues in TEARS days before SHE died in 2024 because another Congress ended without a vote. They are both DEAD, Senator. And their bill is STILL waiting because of YOU. Pat Murray, Marine veteran, had to move his family across the country because the IED that took his leg made it impossible to care for his newborn son without help. Latoya Lucas, Purple Heart recipient, took an RPG to her Humvee in 2003 and has been fighting the offset ever since. MSG Gabriel Peterson from YOUR STATE of Mississippi, Biloxi, is on FIVE different drugs just to BREATHE because of reactive airway disease from service. 556 combat-wounded veterans in Mississippi, Senator. YOUR constituents. YOUR people. And you're out here tweeting about baby savings accounts while their retirement checks read ZERO. Quinn's First Law of Liberalism states that a government program always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent. You're not a liberal, Senator, but you just proved the principle applies across the aisle. You claim to support the troops while you are the SINGULAR reason 54,000 of them are being robbed. You found $800 million for Ukraine. You found billions for climate assessments in a Pentagon that has FAILED SEVEN CONSECUTIVE AUDITS and cannot account for 60% of $3.8 TRILLION in assets. Pentagon accounting errors ALONE exceed the entire cost of the Star Act. But newborn savings accounts? THAT you can do. Those babies will vote in 18 years. Most of these veterans will be dead by then from burn pit cancer. Is that the plan? Actuarial attrition? Wait them out? Every veteran who dies before this passes is one less check the government writes. And every day you stall, more of them do. Invest in families, you say? Start with the families of the men and women who came home in pieces so YOUR family could sleep safely. 50,000 combat-wounded veterans need you to override Wicker's obstruction. But what do I know, I am only a medically retired combat medic who held my wounded brothers together in Iraq while their bodies fell apart, and I am watching you let them fall apart all over again right here at home. #majorrichardstaract
