Yesterday, I delivered my statement in the Senate Chamber in Michif, the language of the Metis Nation. I hope this historic occasion will show Michif children across the Homeland that there is a place for them in every decision-making space, even the Senate of Canada.

“Stolen Life” - the most recent episode of CBC tv show Allegiance is a powerful piece about two Indigenous survivors of forced sterilization. The show is an accurate portrayal of how Indigenous women being sterilized without consent, is very real and happening in Canada today.

On Tuesday, I joined MP Jamie Schmale and the Survivors Circle for Reproductive to call on the House of Commons to pass Bill S-228 without delay. I look forward to hearing the debate this afternoon as the bill is debated at 2nd Reading.

It was great to meet with leadership from Muskeg Lake Cree First Nation during their time in Ottawa yesterday. We discussed some of their key join priorities with the federal government, including self-governance and community infrastructure. Keep up the great work!

Forced sterilization is a violation of human rights. I was honoured to join a webinar hosted by the Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice to speak about Bill S-228 ahead of the National Day of Action on Feb. 24, when the bill reaches second reading in the House of Commons.

It was good to meet with my friend Brenda Larose, a respected Métis community leader, for a meaningful discussion focused on Métis perspectives, priorities, and lived experiences.
