Yesterday was a sad day as we learned of the passing of Senator Josée Forest-Niesing. She was a wonderful colleague – dedicated, insightful, and always supportive. The Senate will miss her. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

The hate inspired killing of 5 innocent Muslims in London is a despicable and cowardly act, and must be condemned by us all in the strongest way possible. My thoughts and prayers are with the Muslim community. I grieve with you.

Three years ago, the landmark legislation recognizing April as Sikh Heritage Month was passed in the Senate of Canada. I was proud to sponsor the Bill in the Senate, following MP @sukhdhaliwal sponsorship in the House of Commons.

Today, Sikhs around the world celebrate Vaisakhi, a festival which marks the start of the Punjabi new year. It also commemorates the birth of the Khalsa, the culmination of the Sikh faith with its emphasis on equality, “seva” (selfless service) and social justice. #Vaisakhi
