هو أمام طريقين: ١. الأول -وهو اختياره-: يقول عقولنا تطورت لغرض البقاء ومبادئها التي يُقال أنها ضرورية لا تحكي الواقع بالضرورة وعند إذن تنهدم كل حججه حتى التجريبية منها، مثلا لو قال ثبت عندنا بالتجربة وبالتطبيقات العملية الكثيرة أن الالكترون يكون موجود بمكانين معا، فيرد عليه إنه حكم العقل أن مطابقة النظرية للنتيجة العملية يعني صحتها لا يحكي الواقع بالضرورة وبالتالي لا يمكن إثبات أي شيء وهكذا في كل الحجج، هذا لو سلمنا أصلا أن هذا حكم عقلي. ٢. الثاني أن يقول أن المبادئ العقلية نثق بها وهي صحيحة والإنسان حتى لو تطور لغرض البقاء فهو محتاج لعقل يكشف الواقع كي ينجو وثمة علاقة بين المعرفة الحقة وبين فرص النجاة والتكيف، إذن يلتزم بها ويضع كل طرف حججه العقلية على الطاولة وهذا ليس ميدانه، هذا ميدان فلسفي أكثر مما هو علمي.

هنا كان المفروض المناظرة تنتهي لأنه في كثير من الجدالات بين المؤمنين والملاحدة المؤمن يحاول يثبت هذه الحجة على الملحد والملحد يدفعها وعنده حجج لردها ولا يلتزم بها.
