Six years ago, I got a call I never expected would change my life forever. It was 2018. A routine welfare check. The kind of call we take dozens of times a year. I pulled up to the address in Kingman, Arizona, walked through the door — and found a two-year-old girl sitting alone. Her name was Kaila. She had a skull injury. A brain bleed. A dislocated elbow. She was two years old. I sat down on the floor with her and waited for social services to arrive. We played. We talked in that way toddlers and adults talk — mostly her babbling, me listening like every word mattered. And honestly? Every word did. When child services finally asked if my wife and I would consider fostering her, I called home before I even left the scene. Kaila moved in that week. We told ourselves it was temporary. We told ourselves not to get attached. Within days, she called my wife "Mom." We never looked back. The paperwork took time. The process wasn't easy. But the moment a judge made it official and Kaila became ours — permanently, legally, completely — there wasn't a dry eye in that courtroom. Not even from the cop who thought he was just answering a welfare check. She's in preschool now. She runs into the house after school, backpack bouncing, talking a million miles a minute. She has no idea that the man she calls Dad was the first person who ever sat down on the floor and made her feel safe. Someday I'll tell her. For now, I'm just her dad. "People ask me if I feel like a hero. I don't. I just answered a call. She's the one who walked into a broken situation and still chose to love us back. That's the remarkable part." — Lt. Brian Zach, Kingman Police Department

No nation, no society, and no international order can call itself just and humane if it measures its success solely by power or prosperity while neglecting those who live at the margins. Indeed, Christ’s love for the least and the forgotten compels us to reject every form of selfishness that leaves the poor and the vulnerable invisible.

Processed meats have officially been classified as Group 1 carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, placing them in the same category as tobacco and asbestos in terms of the strength of scientific evidence linking them to cancer. Foods such as bacon, ham, hot dogs, and sausages have been strongly associated with colorectal cancer. Researchers say the risk is largely connected to the way these meats are processed. Methods like curing, smoking, and salting can create harmful compounds including nitrosamines, which may damage DNA over time. Preservatives such as nitrates and nitrites, along with high temperature cooking methods like grilling or frying, can also increase the formation of carcinogenic chemicals. Health experts stress that this does not mean eating a slice of bacon carries the same overall danger as smoking cigarettes, but it does mean the evidence that processed meat can cause cancer is considered conclusive. Many specialists recommend reducing intake of processed meats and choosing alternatives such as fish, beans, or other plant based proteins more often. For people who continue eating red or processed meat, cutting back on portion size and frequency may help lower long term cancer risk and support overall health and longevity. My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks. 🥰 As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us that "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super." On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and rather Arabic-looking woman hadn't moved a muscle. "Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground." She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one." To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, "Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray-up, Bi*ch."

@gtconway3d Thank you, George, for being out front of this fight for nearly a decade! When you get to Congress, keep it up. And kick ass. Thank you again for being a hero to our democracy. We will remember.

Donald Trump has done a lot of terrible things to this country over the last decade. But here’s what I think is most insidious of all: Trump has taught Americans that cruelty is strength, that resentment is identity, and that hating other people somehow makes you superior.  He has created a permission structure for people to be their worst selves.  Now, more than ever, we NEED elected officials in Congress who still believe that civility is important, the Constitution matters, and treating each other with dignity and respect is the cornerstone of our society. If you’re with me, chip in $10 to help me STOP Donald Trump! gc4ny.com/Insidious

@ImBreckWorsham He is numb and clueless to all of it. Narcissists never acknowledge that they’ve done anything wrong. It’s never them. It’s everybody else. Zero accountability and zero self awareness.

In the middle of the lunch, Trump called RFK Jr and Dr. Oz and told them he wanted the regulation lifted. Trump’s FDA Commissioner then resigned in protest. Things like this are happening every day. RFK Jr is a total fraud.

Human predators (malignant narcissists, psychopaths) are like animal predators in the wild. They need to be free to roam the jungles and the desert looking for prey. To be caged, to be exposed, is unacceptable. They therefore destroy anyone who might impact their freedom. This is out of pathological anger and entitlement. It is not out of fear. We know from many different studies that human predators do not actually experience the feeling of fear. That is why they are so brazen.

Science is hard. You have to prove it, test it, and reproduce the results. Pseudoscience is easy. Make it up. Add fear. Watch it spread.

I have worked for almost 20 years in Mexico, where graft and corruption are all too common among the political elite. That said, I struggle to recall a single Mexican politician coming even close to the staggering amounts of corruption the Trump presidency openly engages in.

What you see in the Sun, is the Chicago skyline from the Indiana Dunes beach, across Lake Michigan. You can see it from 50 miles of distance due to a form of superior mirage, because the skyline is seen above where it's actually located. [📷 wesskywalker]
