President Isaias Afwerki met, at the Denden Guest House in the late afternoon hours today, Ambassador Hu Changchun, China's Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa. President Isaias Afwerki re-iterated Eritrea's readiness to consolidate its constructive engagement with the People's Republic of China, stressing the imperative for a more prominent role of China in various global and regional matters in these tumultuous times of heightened turmoil and instability. President Isaias further alluded to Africa's immense natural and human endowments and underlined the invaluable role that China is expected to play in the development and enhancement of these resources. Ambassador Hu Changchun, for his part, expressed China's readiness to work with Eritrea to deepen the existing bilateral strategic partnership for mutual benefit as well as leverage synergetic development strategies for the joint promotion of peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.

#BREAKING - ⚡️The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) has accused PM Abiy Ahmed of excluding it from consultation and participation when extending the mandate of the Tigray Interim Administration by one year. In its statement, the front reminded the facilitators of the Pretoria Agreement that these kinds of decisions are not meant to be taken «unilaterally,» but jointly, with meaningful consultation and participation of the signatory party instead of sidelining it. However, the statement did not clarify whether the TPLF accepts or rejects the one-year extension of Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede as Interim President of Tigray.

Welcomed H.E. Ambassador Lukman Al-Faily, Permanent Representative of #Iraq to the United Nations, on a courtesy visit to @Eritrea_UN. We exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared priorities at the @UN as we navigate evolving global challenges. Our vantage point must matter, bringing forward alternative voices that challenge the status quo and prevailing narratives that do not reflect the realities and aspirations of our peoples. I am also grateful for the thoughtful gesture of presenting me with his book, The Iraqi Character, a meaningful contribution to deepening mutual understanding and dialogue.

ERITREA — An oil tanker (IMO: 9476135), sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, departed from Yanbu Industrial City in #SaudiArabia on April 4 and has now arrived in the port city of #Massawa carrying tens of thousands of tons of fuel. The shipment comes at a critical time, as global energy markets remain strained following disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of #Hormuz, a key transit route through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply typically passes.

Potemkin Party's antics and theatrics seem to increasingly transcend the bounds of rationality. This is the only explanation for the bizarre conference that the Institute of Foreign Affairs convened this week under the theme: "Inclusive Maritime Governance". Speakers included some obscure and hired "pundits" as well as the senior officials of a Ghost Navy. The Horn of Africa countries have roundly and firmly rejected, without equivocation or ambivalence, the Potemkin Party's quest for "sovereign access to the Sea" as toxic and avoidable threat to regional peace and security. The response from the international community has, likewise, been the same. And yet, Potemkin Party officials and minions seem to double down and indulge on this perilous path. The multi-layered ramifications of this delusional policy are otherwise very evident as the attached link elucidates: "ካብ ጉይይ ምውዓል፥ ክሳድ ምሓዝ"! === The “Sovereign Sea Gate” Delusion: Ethiopia’s Expansionist Narrative Disguised as Strategy shabait.com/2026/04/08/the…

#Eritrea - Statement by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh at the Geneva Conference on Unilateral Sanctions "The international order is increasingly characterized by the normalization, expansion, and quiet institutionalization of unilateral coercive measures. Their scope has widened, their application intensified, and their reach extended far beyond national jurisdictions. This evolution has unfolded largely outside the framework of multilateral legitimacy and in tension with the foundational principles of international law, sovereign equality, non-interference, and the importance of the Charter of the United Nations". shabait.com/2026/04/09/sta…

NEW YORK ― ⚡️ China and Russia both vetoed a Bahrain-led draft UN Security Council resolution that framed the security of the Strait of Hormuz as a “shared international responsibility”. The draft originally included authorization for the use of force to reopen the Strait, but it was repeatedly watered down in an effort to secure their abstention. In the end, both #China and #Russia moved to block it anyway.

Tigray’s interim administrator is reportedly in the capital Addis Ababa for talks with the federal government, addressing issues that include the future of his interim admin position and Tigray’s fuel & budget problems, among others. Abiy Ahmed has completely excluded Tigray from the new fuel rationing scheme, a move many suspect carries a military dimension. How? With the Pretoria Agreement nearing its expiration, attention is turning to the thousands of troops reportedly amassed near Tigray’s borders. If tensions escalate, supplying fuel to the region could be seen as enabling the TPLF to use it for troop mobility. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

TIGRAY — With global attention locked on the Persian Gulf crisis, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed seems poised to let the Pretoria Agreement quietly expire sometime next week. At that point, the Interim Administration’s mandate will set to expire, and authority is expected to revert to the TPLF, an outcome Abiy has shown little appetite for. What follows next week remains uncertain, but all eyes should be on Tigray too. #Ethiopia
