The 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) closed and I wanted to take this opporunity to thank everyone that supported @Eritrea_UN during the sesssion. #CSW70 was an important platform to both deepen understanding of #Eritrea’s gender priorities and actively contribute to global discussions through participation in side events and thematic meetings. It was an opportunity to share #Eritrea|s experiences, perspectives, and approaches to advancing the role of women within the broader context of national development and social transformation. The young women who joined in support of the Permanent Mission of Eritrea brought with them a remarkable wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and clarity of purpose. Their presence and engagement made a meaningful impact throughout the session, as they articulated #Eritrea|s story with confidence, authenticity, and insight. They demonstrated not only intellectual rigor, but also a strong sense of responsibility in representing their country on an international stage. For me, it was a deeply proud moment to witness these young women occupy this space with such poise and conviction, sharing #Eritrea|s narrative in their own voices...well done

Eritrea has long championed this vision, and now young Africans are echoing it: Africa can fuel itself. Angola could supply Southern Africa with reliable oil. Nigeria could power West Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan could support East Africa. Libya and Morocco (with refining and North African access) could bolster the north and beyond. Instead of depending on volatile Gulf imports—exposed to chokepoints, price spikes, and geopolitical risks—Africa has the resources to achieve energy self-sufficiency. #Eritrea #Africa

The New Map of the Red Sea – Energy Sovereignty, Geopolitics, and the Eritrean Gateway Red Sea Beacon A few months ago, I wrote a short article titled Assab to Abadan: The Price of Oil, Sovereignty, and the Road to the Red Sea. Today’s article provides a deeper understanding of those same issues, exploring the current global energy crisis and the future potential that lie within our region. This article maps a dramatic geopolitical shift in global energy flows amid the ongoing Iran conflict and Hormuz blockade, positioning the Red Sea as a vital alternative corridor for oil and gas exports. It emphasizes Saudi Arabia's Petroline pivot to redirect millions of barrels daily to Yanbu, skyrocketing energy prices and underscoring the need for secure bypass routes. Eritrea emerges as the pivotal "Eritrean gateway," with its strategic 1,200 km coastline enabling proposed pipelines from South Sudan/Ethiopia to Massaw/Assab ports and an LNG terminal, potentially transforming Eritrea into a regional energy hub through Free Energy Zones, alliances with Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and a transition toward green energy sovereignty—ultimately redefining Horn of Africa power dynamics away from Persian Gulf vulnerabilities. redseabeacon.com/the-new-map-of…

Commendable progress in ensuring maternal and infant health Keren, 18 March 2026 – As a result of sustained awareness-raising activities in health facilities, commendable progress is being registered in ensuring maternal and infant health in Keren city. Sister Almaz Mebrahtu, head of health facilities in Keren, said that as a result of the strong efforts carried out, last year pre- and post-natal care coverage increased to 90%, while vaccination coverage for children under five years of age rose to over 95%. Sister Almaz went on to say that, in addition to the professional advice and regular follow-up being provided to women, they are also receiving HIV/AIDS counseling, treatment for syphilis and hepatitis, as well as cervical vaccination for girls between 9 and 15 years of age and tetanus vaccination for women between 15 and 45 years of age. Furthermore, Sister Almaz said that, as part of the effort to control the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, free diagnosis of hypertension and diabetes is being conducted for people over 40 years of age, and efforts are being made to assess the health condition of students through visits to schools. In Keren city, there are five health stations providing health care services to the public. shabait.com/2026/03/18/com…

Welcomed my dear friend and colleague, H.E. Mr. David Bakradze, PR of Georgia, to @Eritrea_UN. We exchanged views on developments in our respective regions, global dynamics, and expectations regarding the selection of the next Secretary-General. For small states such as #Eritrea and #Georgia, this process is of particular importance, as it will shape the tone and inclusivity of multilateral engagement in the years ahead. #Sovereignty, #stability, and the integrity of multilateral engagement are under growing strain, principles that must be safeguarded collectively. Agreed that it was imperative that the selection process be transparent, inclusive, and reflective of the collective will of the wider @UN membership. The next Secretary-General must embody impartiality, uphold the principles of the @UN Charter, and ensure that the @UN remains responsive, representative, and effective for all Member States, particularly those whose voices are often underrepresented. We will work to further strengthen our bilateral relations and expand cooperation in multilateral fora, where we share common concerns and priorities across the broad range of issues addressed daily at @UN .
