@EcofactEcology @UnderwaterMedia Agreed, what's the point of stocking fish into a river that's polluted 10 times a year? EA should be given power to hammer the polluters. If there was no pollution the river would look after its self.

@UnderwaterMedia It's obviously not an ecologically sustainable practice - restoring habitats is. This type of "fisheries management" is an outdated approach to managing aquatic ecosystems. If the impact is indeed zero then why would they do it?

@paulpowlesland What is the point of the environment agency if they can't stop tipping over months and months?

30,000 tonnes of waste does not appear overnight. We need the Environment Agency to fess up & tell us the dates that this site was reported to them & when they physically & legally shut it down. There is a repeated pattern of the EA not acting to shut sites down & allowing tens of thousands of tonnes of waste to be dumped into nature. At Hoads Wood it took them 6 months to act, at Kidlington at least 3 months and at Stapleford Tawney on the River Roding it took a year & even then they only acted when I set up a petition & got the media involved. Lawyers for Nature is calling for a simple duty on the EA to shut down all significant illegal waste sites in days, not months or years, & to remove any waste dumped after they are informed about a site. We think this is reasonable; if you agree, please sign & share this petition. change.org/p/stop-illegal…

This is what the main road into Hull looks like, but virtually every British city has its own equivalent. International visitors must think "what a dump Britain is". Sadly, much of it is...

We're nearly there 96,353 and counting. Do your thing internet. As for that vacuous act of futility that is govt's response? The Sewage Campaign Network has asked for a right to reply, we want to be able to write to the very same people govt did shredding their nonsense response. Sign now, sign today.

@ReaRepairs Great tip, I have to do mine soon, what gauge wire do you use and where do you get it? Do you replicate all the original connectors?

Loom building tip. When you have the wires cut for sections such as lighting, set up a rail that you can clip them to but still be able to access them. It makes it easier to see where splices, spurs, flying leads etc need to be.

@Seriousmoonlig5 There was a thing I read where Shane MacGowan was talking about him and he was saying how Van will just lay out the album in the first two songs and you know exactly where the record is going. The whole mood is there and he sticks with it.

The guy that started the thread has locked out any answers. Looks like dying on that hill doesn’t extend to people disagreeing with him 🤣 here’s my reply, Mike. The thing with Wilson, and I say this as a fan and someone that knows where his peaks lie, is that his major accomplishment as an album artist begins and ends at Pet Sounds. You pick that, I’ll go Astral Weeks, which I think is leaps ahead of Pet Sounds as an album. But I can totally understand the argument. Pet Sounds is class, even if there is so lesser songs on it. The thing is, once we go beyond that, and you tell me what you think is his second best album, there’s just not a chance that’s it’s getting near Morrison’s second best album. I don’t think there’s any argument there. Van Morrison has a run of incredible albums, and beyond that run he keeps releasing other great albums. Wilson has good albums outwith Pet Sounds, but he’s not got a back catalogue of classics.
Mike Sullivan@mikej_sullivan

@batcountry1980 @SalvadorDafti @BBorbz well, i disagree. I mean Pet Sounds alone... HOWEVER I will admit the idea that the mythology surrounding Brian and the era in which he thrived and the personal story and all that drama might influence people to think he was greater than he was. But still... he's better than VM

A bricklayer in East Yorkshire has spent 35 years installing nest boxes for barn owls in his free time. No grant. No organization behind him. Just Robert Salter, quietly building and mounting over 350 boxes across fields and farms on weekends, before and after work, for three and a half decades. This year was the second-best barn owl breeding season in the region in decades. 304 owlets counted. Last year there were 95. Barn owls have struggled across the UK for generations due to habitat loss, rodenticide poisoning, starvation from agricultural changes that eliminated the field margins where voles live, and collisions with vehicles on roads that cut through their hunting territory. In many parts of England, populations collapsed while nobody was paying much attention. One man paying attention changed the outcome for an entire region. "This bird has lived alongside humans since they settled in this country," Salter told the BBC. "Because of that close relationship, I just feel like we owe it to barn owls to help and maintain their future populations." The conservation story we usually tell involves governments, legislation, and international agreements. Those matter, but so does one person who decided a species deserved better and just kept showing up.

Roots Manuva paved the way for Streets & Dizzee Rascal, yet most young people don't know his name. His track "Witness" = greatest UK Hip Hop song ever. 50K copies sold, barriers broken. A legend who shaped British music but never got the recognition he deserved.
