Harvesting soybeans too late could cause shattering and yield loss, but too early could cause storage problems or discounts at delivery. We're researching harvest timings to answer questions about ideal timing and soybean quality. @UnitedSoy @SethNaeve @StepUpSoy

Farmers grow #soybeans in many parts of the U.S., but soybean management techniques vary from region to region. One such management technique is applying desiccant to kill #soybean plants to allow producers to better manage harvest. This is a common practice in the southern part of the U.S., and producers in the northern climates often wonder if desiccating the crop to even out maturity is right for them. Seth Naeve, Ph. D., @UMNExt Soybean Agronomist, recently discussed research that has shown how desiccating #soybeans affects overall production in the northern region. 🌱 To learn more about Naeve and the research of desiccating northern produced #soybeans, visit bit.ly/DesiccantSoybe…

Field Advisor
Field Advisor@FieldAdvisor·
Farmers can submit a free sample from the 2024 soybean harvest to evaluate crop quality. Led by @sethnaeve, the survey is supported by the United Soybean Board and plays a vital role in the U.S. Soybean Export Council’s international marketing efforts. Learn how to request a kit on Field Advisor. fieldadvisor.org/submit-your-20…

@skporter @FieldAdvisor We prefer samples sent by Oct 21. These make our first report that is published in early November. However, samples received by mid December will be included in our final report - published around the first of the year.

@EthanSmidt32 @badgerbean @StepUpSoy @UnitedSoy Probably not much glyphosate being used as a desiccant per se. It’s far from the best product for late season weeds, and won’t even or hasten (RR) soy maturity. I BELIEVE (read your own label) there is a pre-harvest label for most glyphosate products with a PHI of 14 days.

Excited to work with ⁦@badgerbean⁩ and ⁦@StepUpSoy⁩ on a ⁦@UnitedSoy⁩ project on desiccants. In addition to the common protocol we are also looking closely at the dynamics of DM accrual and H2O loss by sampling every 4 days until 13% H2O in R6.5 and R7 trts.

Thank you @StepUpSoy for helping to distribute US Soybean Quality Survey sample kits at the OSU Farm Science Review. If you received one, give us a hand (and a pound of soybeans). You’ll be supporting US and OH soybean farmers - while learning about the quality of your soybeans.

Things are looking pretty thin on the farm for the foreseeable future. Fortunately there is always room for improvement in grain marketing. Seth and Dave welcome Ed Usset to the studio || Minnesota CropCast || Grain Marketing is Simple (it's just not easy) mncropcast.transistor.fm/episodes/ed-us…
