Thread: With fertilizer prices hikes folks are looking for options. I believe that all products and methods have a place, somewhere. But there is nothing suited for every field and year, including traditional commercial fertilizer. and other established practices.

I worked for 20 years in "Big Ag" so you don’t have to. This is what they don’t want you to know: Farmers don’t have time for conspiracy theories. Romanticize farming all you want, but without modern tools, you’d starve. GM crops aren't frankenfood. They cut pesticide use, resist drought, and improve yields, all while passing some of the strictest safety checks in science. They are the least unknown crops. Your food is safe. Period. Pesticides are tested more rigorously than most medicines. Farming isn’t killing the planet. Modern farming uses less land, less water, and fewer inputs than ever before. Innovation is the solution, not the problem. Organic farming still use pesticides. Some are more toxic and less effective than synthetic alternatives, meaning higher doses are needed. If you really care about feeding the world and protecting the planet, focus on facts, not fear. My name is Simon and my goal is to make people smarter, not angrier. Drop a “Hi” in the comments and let me know if you have any questions about Ag!

@LucasBotkin Yes. But we aren’t interested in all those “features”. 5 pocket jeans the way they used to be made and I’m happy.

Let’s talk price point. If you’re expecting a jean that’s made in America, with good American denim, stretch crotch with gusset, reinforced pockets/boot heel, side pocket for phone, extra pocket dividers in the back/front pocket, it’s not going to be $30. It’s not even going to be $100. It’s going to be more like $190. And that’s with the price being direct-to-consumer in order to cut 30-40% margin to save you all money. High-quality American manufacturing is not cheap. Still interested in American-made?

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to believe that someone professionally trained to hit a target from 520 feet away is going to leave evidence like his gun AND fingerprints behind. Something doesn't add up.

@simonmaechling People being 2 or 3 generations away from famine have the nourishment that allows them to get wild ideas and blame the very science, ingenuity and innovation that prevents famines today.

Time for a few ear samples in our @CornTennessee funded trials this year. Ran into a little southern rust along the way. Thankfully we are well into R5 at this point. Some good looking corn despite the lack of recent rainfall. @UTcrops

@BARippe Always amazed at the productivity of older germplasm under modern management practices. Seed tech is necessary in some environments, but not all.

200 years ago, everything was “organic”. No GMOs. No “chemicals.” All natural. All local. And people died at 35. So no. Organic didn’t mean healthy. It meant starving, sick, or dead. Let’s not romanticize the past.

First one I’ve ever personally laid my hands on in our TN trials. Asgrow 3.3 planted April 15th. Still a few rains left to finish what could be a great early-soybean crop in Tennessee. #5beaner @UTcrops

@farmingandJesus The hypocrisy is deafening, for sure. But so is the “sex sells” marketing theme here. We should be decrying the latter, not the former.

Del Monte Foods just filed for bankruptcy. Theyve been in business for 138 years but this is their reason for the bankruptcy: -Consumers cutting back on spending -Inflation -Trump tariffs #ETTD
