Dr Emeka already had a busy day. His unit in the teaching hospital had done four elective cases that day, with two being major cases of myomectomy and hysterectomy with two caesarean sections. He assisted two of the major cases and lead the two sections. His tired was tired, but he was on call. At 4pm sharp, he strolled into the labour ward and saw 3 patients in labour. "Matron, how fa now, please make Una pity me today ooo," he said. Matron replied, "Don't worry Dr Emeka, I believe these three will deliver with no issues, they are having strong contractions. He talked to the house officer and goes to the call room. "Call me if you need help," He said By 11pm, the house officer called to inform that all three women had delivered successfully. He couldn't believe it. God does answer prayers. Then 15mins later, he was jerked awake after a frantic knock on the call room door. "Doctor E, there's an emergency, obstructed labour from primary healthcare center!" He hisue officer screams from outside. He sighs, stands up and follows the house officer to the labour ward. Dr E examines the woman, confirms diagnosis and gives the order for emergency CS. But then he unexpected happened. The husband just arrived and he's causing a scene. "My mother and all my sisters delivered by themselves, it won't be on my head that my wife will deliver with operation. God forbid. Doctor we are leaving," He screams at the top of his lungs. The wife wails, "Doctor please help me, I don't want to lose my baby. This is my third pregnancy and I don't have a child." Doctor E is angry. He learned that the patient had lost two pregnancy in the past to similar complicated labour. He can save this one. He has made the necessary calls and theater is ready, but husband doesn't want to sign. He offered the only option available, he told the madam to sign. However upon saying this, the husband swore to divorce her and says he won't pay the hospital bill. The wife is also refusing to sign. Now he's at a standstill, the baby is dying as they're waiting. The mother is also sustaining similar damage. He called the consultant who told him to sort it out. If you were Doctor Emeka, what would you do?

@Dr_Afo Counsel extensively and ensure that both parties understand fully the implication of their decisions. Document and have live recordings too. Then hope the worst doesn't happen. Patient still has her autonomy and you can't overlook that.

Nigerian doctors practicing in Nigeria, stop offering services for free on Social media. Anyone who needs your services should pay consultation fee and you attend to them privately except you don’t know what you’re doing. Don’t jump in here and be making diagnoses and treatment on public social media. It’s not only unethical, it’s demeaning of your profession. Have some dignity. Have some pride. Don’t appear cheap. The public don’t rate you like that.

I went to this hospital at Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja Lagos I wanted to see the gynecologist. I paid for registration, 23,766 Paid for consultation, 119,000 Paid for tests close to 350k (it was about three hundred and forty something) Minus my T.fare o Now after close to a month, my results are ready. Oya o, tell me what the tests says. NO, I HAVE TO PAY 64,000 FIRST before the gynecologist can interpret what my tests says. I almost lost it with them! They said it's the policy. And frankly i don't have 64k to pay for tests interpretation. I told them to send the results to my mail. I'm so heartbroken and disappointed.

@fueki_lee I had a patient bring her 5year old complaining that her vulva was big, that she wanted it small like other children, when I and my consultant examined, it was a normal vulva , no abnormalities. So we asked her to bring her other child and realised the others were circumsized.

While in the Maternity ward, A woman openly talked about how she circumcised her female baby, this was 2023 oooh, not 2003.... We had been gisting, when she just casually dropped it, we were too stunned to speak, we just stopped talking to her.... I was so shocked, can't believe women are still mutilating their baby girls. She claims a Nurse did it for her, must be a quack, because I refuse to believe a trained Nurse would mutilate a child in this era.
Urenna@BridgetUrenna

A friend of mine always complains bitterly about intimacy. She says she desires it although, she hà tes penetrative sèx. Yesterday, it became such a serious conversation that i finally gathered the courage to ask her if she had been circumcised. She said yes. I just froze after that… and couldn’t say another word for the rest of the conversation.

This is how low the bar has fallen for political leadership in Africa. After decades of flamboyant and performative presidencies, where heads of state turn governance into a travelling spectacle, you see dumb commentaries likes that confuse propaganda with with governance. Presidents parading at concerts, football matches, and public ceremonies, moving with entire entourages, family members, and bloated cabinets, burning public funds to remain permanently in people’s faces, while urgent matters of state remain unattended. Measuring the worth of a president by whether he sits in a stadium during a football match is a sign of political degradation.
Thuso van Zyl 🇿🇦@Thuso1Africa

Imagine your country Senegal wins the biggest sport tournament in the world, but the president of the country is not in the stadium to celebrate this historic moment? You're a useless president @PR_Diomaye

That’s actually a pretty grounded take. A lot of people chase quick fixes, but proper hydration and genuine intimacy really do make a difference. It’s interesting how often the simplest, most natural solutions turn out to be the most effective. Don’t you think people tend to overlook those basics for flashy products that promise instant results?

This woman just described a day in every Nigerian doctors life working in government or teaching hospitals This is 2025 and everything she tweeted is STILL HAPPENING!
capital R!@Raihan4h

You have to know.. That when you walk into the A/E in a Nigerian tertiary Hospital, people will rush to your rescue. A nurse will check the vitals and alert the doctor on call. Jointly, they'll try to stop bleeders, secure airway, ensure breathing and all.

My child is now at that age where you can't even make false promises and get away with it... If you promise to buy doughnuts in the morning and you come home without it at night thinking she has forgotten, expect nothing but chaos 😭 waiting for you.

Evidence based medicine is what we need to pay close attention to. If you discover a remedy for any illness or disease, there are laid down processes to validate your claims, and it becomes documented with necessary info like indications, dosage for adult/children, side effects, adverse effects, safety in pregnancy/breastfeeding etc So, if your novel medicine is not documented in the “medicine book of life”, any doctor that recommends it is a criminal. FYI, it costs well over a billion USD and years of clinical/post clinical trials/analysis for a new medicine to get FDA approval.

@the_beardedsina I spent 40 hours of my week attending to elderly, and commonly asked questions about the use of herbal drugs. They always want my approval, and I also ask them further questions on drug research done so far (dosage, effects etc) and when there's no reply, that's my thoughts.
