@TotherChris You want us to buy more of the fundamentally broken vehicle we are forcing into service so some Generals & civil servants don’t lose their jobs?

@the_mantress @RoyStew78036358 @pinstripedline Nope Infantry officers leave Sandhurst and do the Platoon Commander Battle Course which is 14/16 weeks long. Signals/Engineers/Armoured/Medics/REME etc… officers will also go off to phase 2 training which can be a few months to a year in length.

The Royal Navy is making huge changes to Officer training. BRNC will no longer carry out initial naval training. Now all junior officers will spend 11 weeks at HMS RALEIGH alongside ratings before conducting leadership training at BRNC. royalnavy.mod.uk/news/2026/may/…

@BareLeft The police and intelligence services are at the mercy of the justice system I’m afraid, until we start dishing out real consequences to violent criminals, extremists, terrorists, murderers and whatever else then they are powerless. Leaving the ECHR is a necessity.

@BearJFK @ThackhamJosh *spaffed all their money I’m a huge critic of the Army’s choices especially Ajax, Armoured Recce is a dead concept regardless of Ajax’s failings, But the reality is all 3 of the services haven’t had enough money to create an effective fighting force!

@BearJFK @ThackhamJosh The navy have staffed all their money on 2 aircraft carriers they should’ve known we wouldn’t be able to defend and would take money away from escorts and missiles. Also any extra money the Army had was as a result of it being expected to fight wars in Afghan & Iraq.

@fcoury @mike_the_brain Felipe my man, big fan of your work: If you could build a Linux version of Codex/ChatGPT super app that would be greatly appreciated 🙏

/goal also lands in Codex CLI 0.128.0. Our take on the Ralph loop: keep a goal alive across turns. Don't stop until it's achieved. Built by my co-worker and OpenAI mentor Eric Traut, aka the Pyright guy. One of the GOATs I get to work with daily.

We really did consider a top-level toggle for non-coding work. But the dynamic UI just felt better. The summary, the artifacts, the tabs– they all reflect the type of work you're doing. While there is general setting for what type of work you gravitate towards (the "everyday work" setting), the effect is very subtle– it guides onboarding, it suppresses some of the tool call detail, simplifies the sandbox. The new Codex app builds its UI around you in the moment, and there's so much more to come.

Codex for everything: - Dynamic UI for the task at hand - 20% faster computer & browser use - Even better slides and sheets - Annotate in browser, artifacts, and code - Easier to get started - Cleaner design across the app - Performance improvements - (no clunky handoff/switching)

@adje__ I know right, they hardly put any effort into those head kicks, they should’ve put some real force and body weight into them. Disgraceful effort.

@BearJFK I’m not convinced it’s the militaries fault, but more of a society and integration issue. Perhaps more study needs to be done as to why and how to convince a newer generation of black and Asian people to serve their country and reap the benefits that can come with it.

@BearJFK In the US Military; they are literally full of people from poorer ethnic minority (black & Hispanic) backgrounds. The British military meanwhile convinces hardly any ethnic minorities to join, the vast majority of those who do are Gurkhas or directly from Commonwealth nations…

At a time of high unemployment among the young, applications to the armed forces usually spikes. That it is collapsing suggests new factors at play which weren’t around before. Here are some: 1) Poor PR 2) Ethnic change of population 3) Smaller cohort of eligible younger people compared to prior generations (not only smaller overall, but a large % of 18-35yos are foreign nationals) 4) Shrinking force means fewer career opportunities 5) Poor treatment of veterans 6) Changing cultural attitudes, with several decades of anti militarism/nationalism now firmly embedded. 7) Poor physical health of many young people due to inactivity and lack of organised sports arguably leads to being put of a career requiring high physical fitness. Missed anything?

@EggsNBakey83 @DrChrisParry We are so bureaucratic, paper work heavy and slow to changes as an organisation, the days of section attacks against a lone gunman in a bush, or living in harbour areas is dead, yet our leadership don’t seem to either realise that or simply don’t care.

@EggsNBakey83 @DrChrisParry It’s considered almost as an after thought, we still haven’t really adapted our core tactics and sop’s, just experiments on exercise and unit level experimentation, it’s as though the old guard believe our tactics & Trg are so superior we don’t have to worry.

@priyanshnik @theo and as a result is still a fair bit more capable across most domains than GPT-5.5, but Anthropic obviously can’t afford to serve a model of that size to the masses, I’d bet OpenAI had decided GPT-5.5 is near the limit size wise on what they can serve to everyone. They will now…

$5 per mil in, $30 per mil out. GPT-5.5 is smart. I've been using it for a bit. It's also weird, hard to wrangle, and too expensive IMO. Double the price of GPT-5.4. 20% more expensive than Opus 4.7.
OpenAI@OpenAI

Introducing GPT-5.5 A new class of intelligence for real work and powering agents, built to understand complex goals, use tools, check its work, and carry more tasks through to completion. It marks a new way of getting computer work done. Now available in ChatGPT and Codex.
