When I was 13 years old in Aleppo, I woke up one night to a secret police agent with a Kalashnikov rummaging through my shelves looking for banned books. I did not immigrate to the United States to watch extremist state legislators attempt to emulate the policies of the dictatorship I escaped. Enough is enough. I’m Shadia Martini and I’m running for State House to defend our liberties as Americans and to increase opportunity for everyone in Oakland County.
