First radiation session done. It was tougher than expected. Because the tumour is growing out of my head, the mask they clamp on felt like a vice. What used to take a minute was ~20 minutes today. But it’s done. 1 down, 33 to go. Step by step we keep fighting. No Retreat. 💪

Ukrainian doctors performed a unique operation, removing a drone fragment from the aorta of a Ukrainian Defender. Anton, a 32-year-old artilleryman, joined the Ukrainian army at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. He was wounded on February 26 in the Pokrovsk direction when an FPV drone fragment pierced his chest and became lodged in his aorta. Anton was operated on by doctors at the Mechnikov Hospital. According to the hospital's director, Serhii Ryzhenko, 99% of patients with such an injury do not survive. In addition to removing the fragment, the doctors also treated a hematoma caused by internal bleeding. Anton will soon continue treatment at another hospital. Anton shared that his biggest wish now is to see his one-year-old daughter, Melaniia, in his hometown of Lviv. J’ai trouvé ce petit être sur le parking de mon travail. Petit, seul, perdu. La direction a dit que si personne ne venait le chercher, ils allaient « régler la situation ». Et je n’ai pas pu détourner le regard. Je l’ai enveloppé dans une couverture et je l’ai emmené chez moi. J’ai préparé un coin bien chaud dans une boîte en carton — doux, sécurisé. Peut-être la première véritable étreinte qu’il ait jamais connue. Il était minuscule. Fragile. Mais il y avait quelque chose dans ses yeux qui ne demandait qu’une chance. Je lui ai donné son premier « bain surprise » dans l’évier. Et, à ma grande surprise, il est resté calme. Tout tranquille. Comme s’il avait décidé de faire confiance. Comme s’il savait que, là, personne ne lui ferait de mal. Le vétérinaire a confirmé ce que mon cœur savait déjà : épuisé, dénutri, marqué par des jours difficiles. Mais c’est un combattant. On le voit dans la façon dont il replie ses petites pattes en dormant, ou dans ce regard profond avec lequel il me cherche, comme s’il réclamait simplement une présence. Pour l’instant, il est séparé des autres animaux de la maison. Tout se fait doucement. La sécurité avant tout. De l’attention à chaque étape. Et c’est le chiot Husky le plus doux et le plus curieux que j’aie jamais vu. Il me suit des yeux comme s’il commençait à comprendre qu’il est désormais protégé. Qu’il n’a plus besoin de craindre le froid du béton ni l’indifférence des passants. Puis il se blottit, se love et s’endort comme un ange. Comme s’il avait attendu ce moment toute sa vie. Peut-être qu’il n’a pas été abandonné. Peut-être cherchait-il simplement la bonne porte. Et cette fois, il l’a trouvée. 🐾💙

i was 19 and casually seeing a girl. then one day! found a lump in one of my testicles while i was taking a shower. went to the doctor and it turned out that it was cancer and that they would have to remove it. oh, and i would have to have at least 2 rounds of the most intensive chemo out there if i wanted to not die. there was also the very strong chance that i would be sterile for the rest of my life. realizing that this was something that i might not survive i ended things and dropped off the face of the planet for the girl i was seeing, as i didn't want to end up being the dead boyfriend. she found out what was going on though and basically insisted that she be with me through it all. she came to every single 8-10 hour chemo session and helped me through recovery. fast forward 6 years and we are happily married with 2 kids and our 3rd on the way.
