Ominous stories. Hard edges. Shadowline Forge publishes original illustrated fiction where systems fail quietly, pressure builds gradually, and consequences matter. Free to read. Nothing to join. Reading Room: shadowlineforge.org

@elizarose159630 I wouldn’t go on TV talk shows I be terrified to face the cameras! I’d probably hire a Marketing Consultant to give me advice on how to spend my marketing budget. Sorry, a cop-out answer I know.

If you had an unlimited marketing budget for your book, where would you spend it first? Ads? Book tours? Influencers? Something else?

@barryeisler This is indeed a fascinating story and brings to life a slice of history we were never told! I won’t “say” much more, don’t want to be a spoiler, but learned so much in that 2 minute clip. Quite moving.

Didn't know the fascinating and moving story of the first kamikaze (I can almost guarantee it's not what you think). Two-minute video: youtube.com/watch?v=52creZ…

@elizarose159630 If I feel good overall about the plot, prose, storyline flow and supporting images after laboring over every word, and the visceral satisfaction of reading the flipbook on my site… that’s a success. At least a handful of readers is a nice bonus ha!

@BlueinMN Note to Dust Jacket Writer: Don’t give away the plot. 😂 That marketing blurb should do nothing more than entice the reader to pick up the book.

I hate novel spoilers. In the last book I read the intro detailed the entire plot. ☹️ I didn't read the intro of the book I am currently reading, but there was a huge spoiler printed on the back cover of the book. ☹️ FFS.

@elizarose159630 Kel Cahill thought the assignment would end with delivery. Instead, a routine transfer draws him into a tightening web of covert interests. As pressure mounts from multiple directions, survival becomes less about escape than understanding the machinery closing around him.

@elizarose159630 I don’t know if this is cheating, but my one question would be pretty generic. How can a brilliant but unknown author build a readership? 😂

@punk6529 em dashes have been around long before AI existed. Secondly, if you use AI to help polish a manuscript you have to set up constraints and style guidelines. It’s hard work. The payoff is decent prose and not cliches like this example.

"The fat was always the point. The salad was just keeping it company." I don't have a good word for the style (example above) of this fake-profound LLM last sentence in an essay structure, but it is driving me crazy. It is everywhere right now. 100x worse than em dashes

@pauldoiron I remember reading The Poacher’s Son and thinking “wow this is a really compelling and authentic character I hope we get another Mike Bowditch book!” Looking forward with great anticipation to Paul Doiron’s 16th novel!

@thomaspower @axios @Cloudflare @eastdakota Oh I agree 100% but I think his point is for automated AI purchasing will big corporations with massive marketing budgets for their products and services versus a small business with 50 reviews, will the “little guy” have a chance? Only if the algorithm is fine-tuned.

I think the opposite. AI will be the greatest gift small businesses have ever received. For the first time in history, a company with 5 people can access capabilities that previously required 50. Marketing, research, coding, design, customer support, administration and content creation are becoming available at a fraction of the cost. The winners won't be the biggest companies. They'll be the fastest learners. AI reduces the advantage of scale and increases the advantage of adaptability. That's good news for entrepreneurs.

@axios @Cloudflare @eastdakota The real battle becomes: Can the AI ecosystem continue to surface quality niche products and creators? Or does everything become: “Here are the five largest providers.”

Kyra Lawson from AI Wars: Imminent Danger spends much of the story confronting uncertainty, self-doubt, and life-altering consequences. That feels authentic to me. Most of us aren't fearless. We just keep moving forward anyway. Read free: shadowlineforge.org
