@CoachBennaka Oh, I get it. I used to have this conversation with my assistant…he’d say “think we ought to foul?” late in a quarter or game and I’d say, “naw they’ll shoot it or give it to us.” Invariably (and unfortunately for the game) I was right. :( Congrats on a great season btw!

Wrote this in another reply but it's worth repeating. It’s about what you can’t do sometimes. You’re down 10-15 and you can’t guard them in man. Zone might work. Can’t even consider it because there’s no shot clock. You're down 1 with 50 seconds left but they have the ball. Right now? I'm forced to foul. And yes, the shot clock might not go off more than twice a game. It rarely does in college either. It’s about how many possessions they actually start their offense with 15 seconds left. How many hurried shots you can force your opponent to take. It would very much impact the game here in MO and how we prepare for opponents.

Respectfully but strongly disagree with just about every facet of this take, coach. Impacts a lot of games every year that we play in. And the resources are there in the Top 3 classes, have some sympathy for the smaller 3 classes in MO. Better for the game though.

@CoachBennaka I’m not saying the shot clock idea is bad per se. Just that for the most part it’s not needed the way the game is being played today. And I get there will always be exceptions. Individual ball handling has vastly overtaken team ball handling in terms of emphasis in today’s game.

@CoachBennaka Go to a game with a stopwatch and no shot clock and see how many violations there would have been. Teams and players don’t value possession and time like they used to. These days “shoot first open shot before we turn it over” > “play 2-3 sides of the floor for the best shot”.
