@ReelNatives @TheDHTaylor Curve Lake is too far away (and possibly in the Caribbean, based on Drew's photos and their descriptions) for me to saunter up there over a grammar issue. Besides, even though I love Star Trek TNG, I'm a Star Wars guy at heart. Pew pew! Zwing! Beep boop beep! (asthma noises)

@TheDHTaylor “If it WERE a Star Trek convention” uses subjunctive. Here it refers to the mood used to describe things you wish were true or had hoped would happen. Use WERE instead of was, even though was is the simple past-tense form for singular subjects. cc: @ShanePennells the expert!

Waiting in line for corn soup at the Hiawatha Pow Wow. If it was a Star Trek convention, it would be called Gorn Soup. Sorry, this is how my mind works.

Thinking of writing a novel along the lines of THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GREY. In it, the older and more depraved I get, the worse the picture on my Indian Status Card looks.

@TheDHTaylor I'd just write back "As with all art, there must be room left for the audience's interpretation beyond the artist's intent. Best of luck to you as you interpret my work through your own unique viewpoint."

Got an email from a high school student with questions. Here's 2 of them -"What was the main purpose or inspiration behind the character of Rodney? What went into the decision to have Rodney break the fourth wall on occasion?" Sounds\feels like I'm writing somebody's final exam.

@TheDHTaylor "Canadiens"... with an "e". (sigh) Luckily I'm a Leafs fan because... uh... actually scratch that, there's nothing lucky about being a Leafs fan. At this point it almost feels like a form of unending penance...

Today in 1885, the Battle of Batoche occurred. Metis lost that fight. Riel went to jail. Canada's troubled history of colonization took another step. Meanwhile, most of the country is currently rooting for a hockey team called Canadians. Including many Metis. History is funny

@TheDHTaylor I feel like what this story needs to take it to true Literary Immortality is a mystical talking horse (possibly named Bernard) who comes to characters in their dreams and gives them cryptic visions of their futures. It's the pretentious kind of thing literary critics just go for.

When I start a new writing project, I find I'm telling myself two things. Either its going to turn out to be the worst thing I've ever written- good-bye career. Or it's sheer brilliance. The Nobel is assured. Then the reality becomes a table tennis match between the two.

Today in 1486, Columbus proposes a plan to seek a western route to India; Isabella grants full support 3 years later. 3 more years till the boats leave. 10 years ago I applied for a grant to discover India... still waiting. The slow actions of Government bureacracy never change

@TheDHTaylor If you want the psychological angle, this type of humor is often found in trauma survivors (single and communal) as a way of not letting the past events be the defining characteristic of how they face the world. Assuming it's not mean-spirited, it's usually a sign of healing.

@TheDHTaylor I find Indigenous humour often sardonic/absurdist, self-depreciating, tongue-in-cheek, with a dash of gallows humor for good measure.

I'm tossing this out to the world... or the world of X anyways. I'm working on an article on INdigenous humour. Do you thing it is substantially different than mainstream Canadian/Dominent culture humour?!

@TheDHTaylor If you're naked, I'm not embracing you. Best you'll get is a gentle hand on the shoulder and a "Are you okay? Is a writing deadline getting to you?"

Went to a movie last night, the person selling tickets calmly said "Seniors rate?" While I deeply understand our Indigenous appreciation of what the passing years can bring you, my White half was not amused. Luckily my partner didn't hear and she still thinks I'm 25.

@TheDHTaylor The best way to support fellow FN artists is to go and pay full ticket price for their productions/shows/etc so that their projects are financially successful and all involve get their fair share. Side note: i don't think he knows how much of a generous soul you are. I do. 😀

There was this this guy would tweet saying if I was a real supporter of First Nations, I would make admissions to my plays free for them. That would involve contractual headaches for theatre companies, and -here we go again - how do you separate those who are and those who claim?

@TheDHTaylor @ReelNatives That does sound interesting! Unfortunately I'm in play rehearsal at the same time. I appreciate you letting us know.

Two unrelated, coincidental facts: 1: I have a wedding to go this summer. 2: There's a farm literally called Ostrichland 45mins away from where I live. Now where can I rent one of those long trailers they put horses in...

I remember my nutritionist telling me to eat bread and cereal, as much as possible, that contain seeds. Good for digestion and all. You can imagine my delight when I saw all those sesame seeds on Big Mac and Quarter pounder buns. Sometimes being healthy can be fun.

Donald Trump wants to make his birthday (June 14) a national holiday. Since that's already Flag Day, I propose making today, April 1, Trump Day. Why? Because there's no bigger fool out there than him, for just so many, many reasons. Happy Trump Day everyone!

Every time I'm in Toronto, like most people I am frustrated and annoyed by all the construction and noise. Now they're tearing up the streets of Curve Lake, putting in water mains. I'm running out of places to find peace and quiet.
