But I have paid, and continue to pay, a price for this advocacy. - @davidhall75 ( Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation ) I want to begin with a single moment that captures how lrish mortgage holders have been treated. In 2014 the then Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, was asked about vulture funds. He said that calling them vultures was actually "a compliment" because vultures "provide a very good service in the ecology through cleaning up dead animals that are littered across the landscape." Today, borrowers whose loans have been sold, deal with names like Mars Capital, Pepper Finance and Link Asset Services They present themselves as lenders. They are not They present themselves as decision makers. They are not They are shopfronts. Mars, Pepper, Link etc. are all just puppets. Behind them sit the puppet masters -International investment funds and securitisation vehicles - #Appollo, #Cerberus, #Lonestar, #GoldmanSachs, #PIMCO, #Blackstone...I could go on. It’s now 40 years since this quite brilliant episode of Yes, Prime Minister was broadcast but somehow it still seems remarkably appropriate after all this time! One of the best comedy series ever and superbly acted.

When vulture funds snubbed the Oireachtas, the media shrugged and the State did nothing. That set the precedent: big money can dodge democracy. Now tech giants are doing the same and politicians act surprised. The State created this weakness itself.

Imagine calling housing, healthcare, and feeding people “trivia”. That tells you everything.

@Domefc23 I wouldn’t frame it as not caring about anywhere else, but I do think a government’s first responsibility is to its own people, especially the most vulnerable.
