Lo squalo Capopiatto appartiene alla famiglia degli Hexanchidae.🦈 La maggior parte degli esemplari sono vittime del bycatch durante la pesca di altre specie commerciali. Esempio: esemplare catturato accidentalmente (successivamente liberato) il 21 Giugno a Ponza (ultima foto)⚠️

Il 21/10/2021 presso le coste di Samandağ (Turchia) si è assistito all’avvistamento di Rinchodon typus🦈 Questo risulta essere il primo record della specie in Mediterraneo, in quanto non appartenente alla fauna mediterranea!

10-10-2021 un esemplare di Heptranchias perlo viene trovato spiaggiato lungo le coste di Reggio Calabria. Il suo ultimo record nel Mediterraneo risale a luglio del 2019. La sua presenza è estremamente rara e le informazioni sulla sua riproduzione nel nostro mare sono poche.
