NEW: Australian identical twins speak in sync after witnessing an armed carjacking incident in Queensland, Australia. This is hands down a top 5 interview of all time. The twins, Bridgette Powers and Paula Powers, explained how their mom came face to face with a carjacker. The pair was wearing the same exact outfits as they spoke in sync to the reporter. @LiangRhea @SharonDownman1 This is a good app, shows location of all mobile towers, there are a lot (colour is different network I believe) Also "mobile" mobile towers are a thing, perhaps they need some of those on standby.

Cyclone update day #7- finally had mobile reception and a modicum of internet access restored. Seems to come and go depending which way the wind blows! A lovely surprise though 👇- considering I only returned to academia in recent years (my last foray was nearly pre-Google 🤣).

@LiangRhea @scottjla Welcome to our life in FNQ. Maybe getting it happen in SEQ might get more response. But if like up here, a tower is damaged and the backup damaged, what can they do. Also we just went 10-12 days no supplies. 300 trucks came through when it finally opened up. It is what it is

@scottjla We had 'emergency call only' access for a day or so after the power went, but for the rest of the time it was 'no signal'. I think there will be more questions to answer because the telcos had already been fined when the same happened in the 2023 storm. acma.gov.au/articles/2024-…

For #qldflood when my mum lost her house to floods in Gympie. Photos, float them in a bath. I found I needed to take a photo of the photos prior to pulling out of the water. Sometimes the ink floats off

@LiangRhea Charge all your power banks while at work. In cairns we find that the small shops, IGA, Night owl are restocked quickly due to not relying on distribution centres. Farmers markets. BBQ outside use only. Stop at local shops for take away if they have power.

First sunlight this morning! The garden is still beautiful despite getting smashed by the cyclone. Still no power, mobile or internet at home. I'm at work and can't feel sorry for myself- there are staff still stranded *at* work, unable to get home 💔.

@LiangRhea love the way Maroochydore flood map doesn't seem to reflect that I remember as a kid, grandad walking in knee deep water from their place (servo that is now sunshine plaza) and ours, that was opposite primary school. cornmeal creek flooded & so did maroochydore river. early 70s

As we sit here in the weird quiet before the cyclone, remember that only one party wants to burn more fossil fuels, cap renewable energy, scrap the 2030 emissions target and withdraw from the Paris Agreement. I'm not voting for them. I don't like the idea of MORE cyclones. 👎🌀

Netflix and Meghan Markle feel the need to state the obvious, fruit is colorful and could be turned into a rainbow display. WOW! I didn't know that! Is grass green? Is the sky blue? We need the cosplay royal to tell us, apparently. Again, this show looks dull and boring.

@LiangRhea @yvonnesimpson28 I am meant to fly to Brisbane on Friday, to drive to Gympie’s for mum’s eightieth. Mum is your typical, realist. She is all prepped with an exit plan for flooding. “Don’t worry Sharry if they close the airport, just stay safe and come another time. It’s just a birthday”.

@yvonnesimpson28 Thanks Yvonne! The last cyclone this far south was in 1974 when the GC was a tiny beachside town, so very few people locally have any living memory of it. We're all helping each other prep as best we can. 🤗

#Cyclone prep! Outdoor items are inside, bath is full of clean water in case of water supply interruption, pantry is stocked with drinking water and shelf-stable food, powerbanks are charged, petrol tanks are full, important docs are in a ziplock. Any other advice? 🌀😱

@LiangRhea At least unlike our recent issue, you shouldn’t go 10 days without any supplies. Mind you we became very creative in using up the pantry items

@LiangRhea From someone in cairns. Cash as no power, no ATM or working registers and possibly no wifi. But you will be fine. Gas for bbq and camp kettle to boil water on the bbq. If you have a generator or the gas bbq, don’t use inside a closed house- could be lethal.
