Dr Michael Hill emphasised the importance of speed in thrombectomy. “We’re not tidy - sacrifice everything for speed. “If not under 60 minutes from door-to-puncture, you’re not going fast enough.” But even the fastest thrombectomy services in England take over 2 hours. #UKSF24

Of the 15% of eligible stroke patients, 3.9% receive a thrombectomy “A real access problem,” said Lisa Shaw at #UKSF24 who is exploring the SPEEDY pathway A realtime tool to improve rates by assessing the viability of direct-to-thrombectomy treatment in the prehospital setting.

Stroke patients are worse off now than they were 10 years ago when it comes to treatment on stroke units, due to a post-pandemic slump. To get answers for patients, “Be curious and impatient” in implementing and answering research questions, said Prof Martin James at #UKSF24.
