The Hussars were a direct response and heavily inspired by the Turkish Akinci Light Raiders, especially the Deli(madmen) detachment.
Including the famed wings were copied from the Akincis, which were meant to intimidate, awe and strike fear.
However the Hussars had a knightly aspect to it which is of course inspired by western heavy cavalry traditions.

The Winged Hussars will always be beyond peak military design in human history. Their insanely unique and intimidating presence is almost unmatched.

@Dolfijnmanjohns Not in Poland. Here it is one of the most well known/popular time periods. Our most expensive & often considered the best historical movie is set in 1650s - "Potop" (1974). Based on famous novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, part of his Trilogy set in 17th c.
