@avatans Happens on occasion. I think Jaishankar did. I’d be surprised if no one visits Robbinsville

I wonder why Indian politicians don’t visit Hindu temples or other Hindu faith institutions on their official visits to the US.

I like people who've contributed nothing economically to the country asking "if immigrants are so great, why don't they build their own countries"? Like if some "Based" Heritage staffer or other mediocrity were transported to India, the country would suddenly turn in to a giant Singapore. "I graduated from Hillsdale with a degree in Aquinas studies. If this biotech founder is so great, why hasn't he single-handedly made his country rich?" You didn't build anything. Your accomplishments are zero. So somebody who was the same race founded a successful country? It says nothing about your quality as a person, and whether we wouldn't be better off replacing you with people who are objectively better from elsewhere.

@tunkuv No, it’s the difference between having to answer voters and not having to answer to voters.

@tunkuv So when people refer to Ancient Greece, it’s a mishmash of myth, revisionism, wishful thinking and ideology-addled invention because modern Greece wasn’t a thing till the 19th century?

If I had invoked a Western voice for validation as an Indian, I'd be dismissed as a "brown sepoy" by the khaki-shorts and saffron brigade. It is an indisputable truth that "India," as presently configured, had never been a sovereign state until Aug. 15, 1947. The British Raj gave political shape to what WAS India until Aug. 13, 1947, when it split into the breakaway Land of the Pure (Pakistan), on Aug. 14, 1947, and the rump India (at the "stroke of midnight," in the words of a prime minister infinitely more literate than the present dispenser of toffee). Pre-British "India" as a political whole is a mishmash of myth, revisionism, wishful thinking and ideology-addled invention.

@jaffer_ansari @PuliArason lol - sure Muslims will happily eat in non-halal pork serving restaurants where food comes out of the same kitchens and the same vessels are used. You’d be killed in Indonesia or Malaysia if you tried it.

@PuliArason This fellow never invited any Muslim nor had any Muslim friends to invite to begin with to his home. The pathetic guy doesn't even know that halal category is only for meat. You can eat any veg items. Comparing Apples with Orange.

Brahmins & Muslims in Tamil Nadu are so similar compared to other Tamil communities. They prioritize Sanskrit or Arabic/Urdu over Tamil,

@TheEmissaryCo I think what’s scary is that this will from here on out be a kind of lesser of two evils type of vote where you have to choose between a DSA type or MAGATARD

With the way things are going, there's a good chance Trump is the last gasp before a long period of Liberal Raj in the US. Initially, it will be centrist like Newsom but the organic institutional element of the Left will return shortly thereafter with a vengeance.

@Savitri4Ever Relationships come and go. The US-Philippines relationship was on the brink under Duterte. It rallied under Marcos. India should wait to see what comes up in the next election. If it’s more MAGA oriented, then make the decisive break and move on.

I'm sorry, but this illusion must break. This kind of thinking is playing into America's exploitative hands. One must not endure an abusive relationship. There's NO logic or precedent to suppose that a successor administration will behave any differently, apart from nuances in rhetoric (and the only reason I'm giving the abusive relationship analogy is because the ridiculous analogy of "marriage" in context of foreign policy must necessarily be countered by an equally ridiculous analogy).
Sreemoy Talukdar@sreemoytalukdar

Brilliant piece by @samirsaran The India-US partnership will endure. It survived Nixon; it will survive Trump. But whether it matures is a different question entirely. The answer depends on one thing alone: America deciding it can accept India on mutually agreeable terms. The Trump White House doesn’t understand the question. Perhaps its successor will need to find the answer.

@ShadesOfBlueAn1 I do wonder what the trailer park MAGATards are gonna do when they realize 90% of us aren’t going anywhere and half of Indian immigrants actually roll in via chain migrations.

also the reason there is any waiting at all is because employment/skills based green cards are numerically capped, and also subject to per-country caps in contrast, no numerical caps or per-country caps for spouses & parents of us citizens, seeking a greencard
Ronald Mannak@ronaldmannak

That’s not a loophole, that’s just self-destruction. I switched from an O1 visa to green card myself. What’s the purpose of waiting abroad other than to demotivate the brightest immigrants?
