I have wondered if the linesmen might have been from the Channel Islands where French-sounding surnames are sometimes found.

Line-ups and officials for Sutton United v Woking in October 1984. What is intriguing here are the very French surnames of the linesmen. Unfortunately unlike the referee no details on where they came from. i.e. were they French officials or just English with French surnames?
